There’s a new sheriff in town - Camden County has added a girls state duals title to the trophy case.

Camden leaned heavily on its lightweights all weekend, and they delivered. Shamise Vila, Breanna Higgins, Peyton Rego, and Kyrie-Jade Atkinson all went unbeaten, as did Delaney Spencer at 145 and Serenity Small up top at 235. From start to finish, Camden’s ability to score in bunches proved to be the difference.

The road to the title wasn’t without adversity. In the opening round, Camden found itself trailing Campbell 36–16, but Small and the lightweights sparked a furious comeback. Fall after fall flipped the dual, and Camden stormed back to win 46–36, setting the tone for the rest of the weekend.

In the semifinals, it was the middle of the lineup that took over early. Callie DeLorenzo, Kyrie-Jade Atkinson, Lena Kettering, Delaney Spencer, and Trinity Kussmaul powered Camden to a 30–6 lead after six matches. A fall by Dennis at 190 and a win by Alesia Morrison over Quiana Grice-Jones sealed it as Camden rolled to a 60–23 victory and its first-ever finals appearance.

Waiting in the finals were the defending state champions, Greenbrier. Greenbrier struck first behind Gabrielle Jefferson and Abigail Sekajipo, but Camden responded in the heart of the lineup. Kettering, Spencer, and Kussmaul were massive from 140–155, and the dual was knotted 18–18 after six matches as the teams hit 190.

That’s where Camden found its stride. Gabriel Daniels delivered a fall, Serenity Small gutted out a tough 3–0 decision, Vila followed with a fall, and then Higgins and Rego slammed the door. Camden pulled away for a 51–30 win, capturing the program’s first girls state duals title.

Greenbrier’s run to the finals included wins over River Ridge and Morrow, with Jansen Drumgoole, Journey Drumgoole, Esperanza Huitron, Gabrielle Jefferson, Abigail Sekajipo, and Daniella Anguiano all finishing unbeaten.

After falling to Greenbrier in the semifinals, Morrow rebounded impressively to take third place. Morrow defeated Campbell 47–35 and then knocked off Gainesville 49–30 — the same team they beat in the opening round — to finish on the podium. Candessa Barker, Rosie Lara, Natalie Hernandez, Zarriah Hollinger, and Kennedi Hill Maine all went unbeaten for Morrow.

Gainesville also made noise on the backside, with Ashley Morales, Kimberli Rocha-Trujillo, and Gabriela Francisco Manuel playing key roles in their run to the podium.

A breakthrough weekend, a statement title, and a new power announced — Camden County has arrived.

Lumpkin County rolls to their 2nd title

We knew coming into the weekend that Lumpkin County was one of the best girls teams in the state. What we didn’t know was whether they were slightly above the field — or operating on a completely different level. That question has now been answered. Lumpkin County is significantly above everyone else.

Coach DeGraff talked in the preview about how this group constantly looks for ways to push itself. That mindset must be real, because no one this weekend was able to do it for them. Lumpkin opened with an 84–0 shutout of Mt. Zion Jonesboro, then dismantled last year’s runner-up Jordan 66–18 in the semifinals. The finals followed a similar script. Long County jumped out to a 17–6 lead after four matches, but once Lumpkin turned to its hammers, the door slammed shut — Long County was shut out the rest of the way.

And while the Garbuzova twins are the first names that come to mind when you think Lumpkin County, this title was anything but a two-person show. Cadence Grulla went 3–0 with three falls, Alyssa Reece finished 3–0, Keirah Herrera was 3–0, Jaelyn Sullens and Caroline Cunningham split time at 125 and combined to go 3–0, Mattie Mendoza went 3–0 with three quick falls, and Monica McClendon added another 3–0 with three falls. Lumpkin County was simply the best team in the building — and there’s a legitimate argument they’re the best girls team in the state, regardless of class.

Long County may have felt a bit disrespected by the seeding committee after landing the No. 7 seed, but they let their wrestling do the talking. They knocked off No. 2 Jefferson 52–18 and Pierce County 53–29 to earn a spot in the finals. Aleena Clark was the lone Long County wrestler to finish unbeaten, but this was a deep lineup that competed hard in every dual. However many seniors they’re losing, the future in Long County looks bright.

Jordan endured a grind-it-out day and came away with third place. They survived a scrappy 42–42 battle with Ridgeland, where they were pushed hard from 110–125 before forfeits at 140, 170, and 190 proved decisive. After falling to Lumpkin in the semis, Jordan rebounded with a 48–36 win over Gilmer and a 54–29 victory over Pierce County.

As expected, Alliyah Rone, Adrianna Smith, and Beatrice Suomie played a massive role in Jordan’s bounce-back effort. Pierce County finished fourth, leaning heavily — as Coach Insalaco noted in the preview — on Jayden Altman and Joselyn Barrera, both of whom went 4–0 on the weekend.

The takeaway was unmistakable: Lumpkin County didn’t just win — they separated themselves.

Greenbrier vs. River Ridge

• What to Know: Greenbrier enters as the #1 seed and are the defending D1 State Duals Champions. Greenbrier has wrestled in every state duals tournament since it began in 2023. River Ridge is making their 1st appearance in the Elite 8.

• A closer look:

  • Greenbrier brings experience to the mat, featuring seven wrestlers with previous postseason appearances, including returning state placer Esperanza Huitron and returning state qualifiers Jansen Drumgoole, Jose McQuillan, and Abigail Sekajipo. Reagan Carnes and Kenya Solomon should help solidify the lower weights, while Malee Head, Daniella Anguiano, and Renee Jetter will be relied upon to take care of business at the top end of the lineup.

  • River Ridge returns six wrestlers with postseason experience, though none advanced to the state tournament a year ago after graduating their two 2025 hammers, Alanna Garner and Alyssa Roberts. Still, Elizabeth Ogloblin, Karla Martinez-Angeles, and Lillian McKamey have all found success in the past and will be counted on to lead the charge. Keep an eye on Legha White, Peyton Gibson, and Emilee Griffin as potential difference-makers as well.

• Summary: Greenbrier is particularly tough from 115–140, and if River Ridge is going to make a dent — and have a chance to upset the returning state champions and No. 1 seed — they’ll need to make an impact across those six weights. They simply can’t allow Greenbrier to roll through that stretch with bonus points and still expect to come out on top.

Morrow vs. Gainesville

• What to know: Gainesville enters their 3rd Elite 8 after qualifying in 2024 and 2025. They have a career record of 6-3 at the state duals and finished 3rd in 2024. Morrow is making their first appearance in the state duals tournament.

• A closer look:

  • Both teams bring back state qualifiers and plenty of postseason experience. Morrow will lean on returning state qualifiers Rosie Lara, Makiyah Wright, and Lillian Heard, while Gainesville counters with returning state qualifiers Ashley Morales and Alicia Rogers.

  • Gainesville is particularly tough down low, while Morrow is strongest through the 120–145 range. Gainesville will look to Roselyn Revolledo, Julia Carcamo, and others to make an impact in that stretch where Morrow traditionally scores. Up top, Morrow will count on Madison Moore and Zrriah Hollinger to generate points, while Gainesville will lean on Itel Salcido and Lauren Ramirez-Sanchez.

• Summary: This is a textbook example of two evenly matched teams with depth throughout the lineup — and likely the reason we’re seeing them slotted as the 4 vs. 5 seed. If the returning state qualifiers on both sides take care of business, this dual could hinge on swing bouts like Desiray Alkerson vs. Roselyn Revolledo or Zarriah Hollinger vs. Lauren Ramirez-Sanchez. In a matchup this tight, bonus points and lineup matchups should play a decisive role in determining who advances.

Camden County vs. Campbell

• What to know: Campbell has qualified for every State Duals since it began 3 years ago. They are 2-6 all time. Camden County has never qualified for the State Duals Tournament and are making their first appearance this weekend.

• A closer look:

  • Camden County enters with a legitimate hammer in defending state champion Breanna Higgins, who anchors a lightweight group capable of putting points on the board in a hurry. Peyton Rego, Annellese Rutherford, and Kyrie-Jade Atkinson are critical pieces down low, while Delaney Spencer, Lena Kettering, and Trinity Kussmaul add scoring potential through the middle of the lineup. Up top, Gabriel Daniels and Serenity Small will be counted on to close things out.

  • Campbell returns three wrestlers with postseason experience in Shavani Parker, Livia Ross, and Kaylin Pham. To counter Camden’s strength in the lightweights, Campbell will need to be solid — and limit bonus — through the middle of the lineup to keep this dual within reach.

• Summary: Higgins is the foundation of Camden’s girls program, which appears to be hitting its stride at the right time. With Rego, Rutherford, and Atkinson surrounding her, Camden is exceptionally strong from 105–125 and capable of building an early cushion quickly. If Campbell — or anyone else — is going to slow the Camden train, it will have to happen through the middle of the lineup and up top, where matches are more likely to be competitive and momentum can swing.

Shiloh vs. Harris County

• What to know: Shiloh makes their 3rd appearance while Harris County comes in as the #2 seed in their 1st appearance in the state duals.

• A closer look:

  • Shiloh is led by 2025 state qualifiers Ariel McDanieles, Maddison Jones, and Quiana Grice-Jones, and they also return five more wrestlers with postseason experience in Tamia Black, Tatum Rooks, Alanah Grayer, Maniya Curry, and Bryseida Melendez.

  • Harris County has been on a roll this season and enters as the No. 2 seed. They, too, bring back five wrestlers with postseason experience, including Lillian Olson, Ava Ives, Olivia Pritchett, Roxanne Sipes, and Tresa Brown, giving them a deep and balanced lineup heading into this matchup.

• Summary: The returners could cross paths at one or two weights — most notably McDanieles vs. Olson at 105 — but the heart of this dual may lie in the 115–135 range. Maddison Jones, Alanah Grayer, and Maniya Curry loom large for Shiloh, while Houck, Ava Ives, and Ariana and Aracely Rios figure to play pivotal roles for Harris County. How those middle weights shake out could ultimately determine which team advances and which falls into the consis.

D2

Lumpkin County vs. Mt Zion Jonesboro

• What to know: Lumpkin County enters as the defending State Champs and the #1 seed in Division 2. They are 6-2 in state duals and have finished in the top 4 twice. Mt Zion Jonesboro is making their first appearance in the state duals.

• A closer look:

  • From top to bottom, Lumpkin County might be the best girls team in Georgia — regardless of class. They return hammers throughout the lineup, including state champions Nora and Greta Garbuzovas, state placer Mattie Mendoza, and state qualifiers Cadence Grulla, Monica McClendon, and Faith Jones.

  • Mt. Zion brings back four wrestlers with postseason experience in Takira Arnold, Imani Mathis-Shelton, Angelee Lopez, and Sydney Harris, but on paper this is a tall task against Lumpkin’s depth and top-end firepower.

• Summary: Lumpkin County isn’t just loaded with top-end hammers — they also have the depth to compete with anyone in the field. Wrestlers like Emily Wilson, Ella Greene, Carmen Herrera, Caroline Cunningham, Jaelyn Sullens, and Natalie Mendoza are all capable of contributing in meaningful ways as Lumpkin looks to make another championship run. Mt. Zion finds itself in a tough spot. Even if they can secure wins from Arnold, Shelton, and others, the depth simply isn’t there to withstand a Lumpkin County lineup that is built to grind through a dual and looks ready to make it two in a row.

Ridgeland vs. Jordan

• What to know: Jordan has been here and done that … that is everything except winning a title. Jordan has competed in each of the 3 State Duals tournaments since it began in 2023 and have finished second twice (2023 and a year ago to Lumpkin County). Ridgeland is making their first appearance in the State Duals Tournament.

• A closer look:

  • Jordan is a deep, experienced squad that knows this stage well. After making a run to the finals a year ago, they return in 2026 with their sights set on finishing the job. The lineup is anchored by returning state champion Beatrice Suomie and state placer Alliyah Rone, giving Jordan both top-end firepower and proven leadership.

  • Ridgeland counters with returning state placer Alaina Shaver, along with Jersey Campbell and Kaitlynn Sivley, both of whom bring valuable postseason experience. While Ridgeland has pieces that can win matches, they’ll need those veterans to deliver to keep pace with Jordan’s depth.

• Summary: Jordan will have someone at every weight and is unlikely to concede any free points — a huge advantage at this stage. While Ridgeland’s exact lineup remains uncertain, missing even a weight or two at this level is incredibly difficult to overcome. Don’t be surprised if Angelina Hawkins, Alise Freeman, T’Lajah Richardson, and others play significant roles for Jordan — not just in this dual, but in determining how far this team can go. Ridgeland will need Shaver, Campbell, and Sivley to lead the charge, but they’ll also need points from Tori Hansard and others if they’re going to stay in the hunt.

Gilmer County vs. Pierce County

• What to know: Gilmer has appeared in every state duals since it began in 2023 and has made the top 4 in every one as well (the only team to do that). But Gilmer is still hunting their first finals appearance after taking 3rd a year ago (and losing to Jordan in the semis). Pierce County is making their debut at the state duals tournament this year.

• A closer look:

  • Gilmer will once again lean on some familiar faces to lead the way. Returning state placer Abelinda Tercero and state qualifier Erika Tercero anchor the lineup, but as Coach Galloway noted earlier, this is a group that will need contributions throughout the roster. Salma Gonzalez-Santos, LucyAnn McArthur, Erica Velasquez, and others are poised to play major roles in determining just how far Gilmer can go.

  • Pierce County, meanwhile, is built around its four hammers. Robi Milsom, Jayden Altman, Josie Insalaco, and Joselyn Barrera will be counted on to set the tone and create bonus points whenever possible. Keep an eye on Elizabeth Insalaco and others to make an impression as well.

• Summary: Pierce County will look to its lightweights to set the tone, while Gilmer counters through the middle and up top with McArthur and Tercero. If each lineup takes care of business where it’s strongest, this dual could hinge on a handful of swing weights — potentially 100, 115, 170, and 190 — that end up deciding the outcome.

Long County vs. Jefferson

• What to know: Long County makes their return trip to the state duals after making their debut a year ago. Jefferson comes in as the #2 seed and is making their debut in the state duals tournament.

• A closer look:

  • Long County returns a bevy of experienced wrestlers who are aiming to turn last year’s qualification into a podium finish. The group is led by Aliana Morales, Tymiah Powell, Aleena Clark, and others who will be counted on to set the tone throughout the lineup.

  • Jefferson, the No. 2 seed, brings proven top-end results, anchored by returning state runners-up Ella Hughes and Ava Catledge, along with state qualifier Ava Goodwin. With experience and firepower on both sides, this matchup shapes up as a compelling test of depth versus elite finishes.

• Summary: Jefferson will generate points through Hughes, Catledge, Goodwin, and White, while Long County looks to counter with depth across the lineup behind Morales, Powell, and others. The looming question is whether Jefferson will field a full lineup — because it appears Long County won’t be giving up any forfeits. At this level, trying to beat teams while giving up forfeits is a difficult path. That said, Jefferson can often count on 24 points in the bank against most opponents. But with nine to ten other weights likely in play, that advantage may not matter unless others step up. Long County’s path is clear: leverage its depth and win the remaining weights if it wants to pull the upset.

Congratulations to each of these programs on an outstanding run. With the State Duals now in the books, we turn the page for another year and shift our focus to the pursuit of individual state titles—and a team tournament championship.

Camden - 6A

A few numbers for context: 13, 12, 19, 5, and 51.
We’ll start with the big ones.

Camden rolled to its 13th State Dual title—and 12th straight—cementing its place as one of the greatest programs in the history of Georgia wrestling. Over four duals this weekend, the Wildcats surrendered a total of just 19 points, blanking North Gwinnett (83-0) and Archer (77-0) before dismantling Walton (76-3) and Buford (55-16).

What makes the run even more staggering: Camden lost only five total matches across those four duals, and in their 51 wins, every single one came by bonus. They didn’t just win another championship—they dominated everyone in their path, including a nationally ranked Buford program.

Buford once again powered its way to the finals, as it has consistently done in recent seasons, but once again ran into the Camden buzzsaw. In their victories, Buford was impressive and decisive, yet for a program with such high standards and sustained success, finishing second will inevitably leave a sour taste.

The battle for the podium on the backside, however, delivered plenty of drama. Tift County dropped its quarterfinal matchup to West Forsyth, then rattled off four straight wins to claim third place—capped by a thrilling 37-36 victory over West Forsyth in the consolation finals.

Social Circle - 1A

Social Circle entered the weekend as the heavy favorite, and the Redskins more than lived up to the billing. They tore through the 1A bracket with wins of 68-9, 66-10, and 68-12 over Commerce before closing the tournament with a 56-13 victory over Elbert County in the finals.

Across four duals and 56 individual matches, Social Circle dropped just nine bouts. Of their 47 wins, 33 came by fall or technical fall—nearly 70 percent. They didn’t need bonus points to win, but they had them in abundance. Thirteen wrestlers finished the weekend unbeaten as the Redskins mixed and matched lineups, giving much of the roster an opportunity to compete. The championship marks Social Circle’s eighth State Dual title and their third straight crown in 1A.

Behind the champions, the rest of the bracket delivered plenty of intrigue. #6 seed Elbert County put together an outstanding tournament run, opening with a 69-9 win over Berrien County before knocking off #3 seed Bremen 36-31. In the semifinals, Elbert once again showed its grit, using a late surge from Jayden Thompson, Hudson Fleming, and Brycin Hughes to defeat Gordon Lee and punch its ticket to the finals—its first finals appearance since 2019.

Gordon Lee was the Cinderella story of the tournament. Entering as the #15 seed, Gordon Lee stunned #2 seed Toombs County 41-40 in the opening round before beating Brantley County in the quarterfinals. Though their run to the finals was halted by Elbert County, Gordon Lee proved it was no fluke, knocking off Toombs County again in the consolation semifinals, 39-36, to secure a top-four finish—an exceptional run by any measure.

Commerce bounced back from its semifinal loss to Social Circle by edging Bremen 38-33 in the consolation semifinals, then defeating Gordon Lee to finish third and cap off a strong tournament showing.

2A

Rockmart is officially on a roll—claiming its fifth State Dual title, and remarkably, its fifth in a row. They did it in familiar fashion: dominating where expected, grinding when necessary, and managing matchups with precision.

The Yellow Jackets opened the tournament with emphatic wins over Callaway (78-6) and Ringgold (52-19) before drawing Columbus in the semifinals—a matchup that played exactly into Rockmart’s hands. Starting at 285, Colton Chappell delivered a massive 8-7 win to set the tone. After a narrow 2-1 loss at 106, Rockmart leaned into its strengths and began separating, never allowing Columbus to get into the part of the lineup where they could do the most damage. The pivotal moment came at 144, where Kennith Fliers scored a takedown with 20 seconds remaining to secure a 17-14 decision and push the dual to the brink. Hagen Sharp followed by shutting the door, allowing Rockmart to advance 36-33 without needing to wrestle the final five matches.

In the finals, Rockmart once again relied on its lightweight firepower, racing out to a commanding 36-3 lead with six matches remaining. East Jackson mounted a brief push from 157 through 190, but any talk of an upset ended when Jake Gravitt delivered a first-period fall at 215 to seal the championship and secure Rockmart’s fifth straight title.

For East Jackson, the #7 seed, it was a memorable weekend. The Eagles knocked off #2 Lovett before defeating Cook 38-31 in a series of duals that consistently delivered excitement. Cook rebounded to finish fourth behind Columbus, while Columbus secured third with a 41-31 win over Coahulla Creek in the consolation semifinals. Cook also closed strong on the backside, beating Pike County 46-30, as nearly every matchup in the consolation bracket brought drama.

3A

As we said in the preview, there has been no better dual program in Georgia history than Jefferson—and that narrative only grew stronger this weekend. Jefferson captured its 22nd State Dual title (out of 25 possible appearances) and was rarely threatened along the way. The Dragons rolled through Mary Persons (73-6) and White County (71-6) before dispatching Gilmer 61-15 in the semifinals.

The finals opened with a brief surge from Troup, which jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first five matches. Unfortunately for the Tigers, that’s where the momentum ended. A disqualification win for Gavin Austin at 126 flipped the dual, Ty Murray followed with a fall at 132, and Jefferson went on to win the final nine matches to pull away for a 57-21 championship victory. Across four duals and 56 total bouts, Jefferson won 47 matches—and like many of the champions this weekend, did overwhelming damage when it won, finishing with bonus points in 44 of those 47 victories.

Troup, meanwhile, was outstanding on the bottom half of the bracket. The Tigers powered past Mt. Zion (Jonesboro) 73-4 and Oconee County 54-18 before knocking off Dawson County 57-15 to reach the finals. The runner-up finish marks Troup’s second consecutive State Duals finals appearance and cements them as a program clearly knocking on the door of a championship breakthrough.

Gilmer bounced back from its semifinal loss to Jefferson with wins over Oconee County (40-32) and White County (44-31) to claim third place. White County, after falling to Jefferson in the quarterfinals, showed resilience on the backside—beating Dawson County 38-31 in the consolation semifinals before finishing fourth.

Jefferson adds another chapter to its unmatched legacy—and once again sets the standard for dual dominance in Georgia.

4A

Sometimes the unexpected happens. Other times, we get exactly what we expect. In 4A this weekend, the expected delivered, as the two most dominant teams in the class rolled their way to the finals in Ola.

Woodland had edged Cass 38-35 a little more than a week earlier, setting the stage for what many anticipated would be a rematch—though as we’ve seen throughout these State Duals, nothing is ever guaranteed. Woodland handled business on the top side of the bracket, rolling past Pace Academy (78-3), Cambridge (60-16), and Harris County (60-18). Cass answered on the bottom side, knocking off Drew (42-35), Central Carroll (50-27), and then holding off a tough Ola squad 42-25 to punch its ticket.

And the finals delivered in a big way.

Hayden Trimm put Cass on the board early, but Adrian Zapata and Joshua Palmore quickly swung momentum to give Woodland a 7-6 edge. Cass responded by leaning into its middleweight strength. Rowdy Duck picked up a technical fall, Luke Jensen followed with a fall at 144, and David Jewell added another fall at 150 as Cass surged ahead 23-7 after six matches. Woodland got six back at 157 from Nathan Cates, but Ethan Harrington answered with a fall at 165, pushing Cass’s lead to 29-13 with six bouts remaining.

That’s when everything flipped.

Paul Lanier and Owen Jones delivered back-to-back falls at 175 and 190, and John Gill battled his way to a 16-8 major decision over Codey Dean to pull Woodland even at 29-29. Will Thomas then delivered one of the biggest wins of his career to date, grinding out a 3-1 decision over John Abernathy to give Woodland its first lead of the dual. Cayden Bagley followed with an 18-5 major decision at 106 to stretch the margin, and although Gavin Walker took an injury default at 113 for Cass, Woodland held on for a thrilling 36-35 victory to claim the 4A title.

Another classic between two of the best programs in the state.

On the backside, Walnut Grove rebounded from its quarterfinal loss to Harris County and turned the tables in the third-place match, edging Harris County 35-34. The dual came down to the final bout, where Noah Van Name sealed the one-point win with an 11-3 major decision over Chase Rust.

In the end, 4A gave us exactly what we’ve come to expect—elite teams, razor-thin margins, and some of the most exciting duals of the entire weekend. Woodland added their 6th state dual title to the trophy case - making them in elite company (and top 5 all time).

5A

Every single year—without fail—5A delivers some of the most exciting duals in Georgia wrestling history. From classics of the past (Alexander vs. Valdosta—yes, technically 6A, but the second-largest class at the time) to more recent thrillers like South Effingham vs. Glynn Academy ending 31-31, this class has built a reputation for chaos and drama. And yet, even with that history, it’s hard to argue that anything tops what unfolded this past weekend.

Creekview and South Effingham were clearly the two best teams in the building, and you could feel the collision coming. Creekview powered through the top side of the bracket with wins over Habersham Central (69-11), Villa Rica (66-12), and Dunwoody (65-11). South Effingham was equally dominant on the bottom half, rolling past Sequoyah (54-19), Thomas County Central (68-10), and Jackson County (55-12).

Before getting to the final, the backside of the bracket deserves recognition. Brunswick, the only team in any class to lose its opening-round dual and still reach the podium, rebounded by rattling off four straight wins before falling to Jackson County in the third-place match—an impressive run that stood out across all classifications.

And then came the final—an instant classic. (If you get the chance to watch it back on Flo, do it.)

South Effingham jumped out to an early 8-6 lead after three matches and then seized control in emphatic fashion, winning six straight bouts. Christopher Hardeman ignited the run with a fall at 106, followed by technical falls from Andreo Manlove and Tahrik Bailey to stretch the lead to 24-6. Decision wins from Mayson Young and Noah Knowlton pushed it to 30-6, and Bear Bringer’s technical fall at 138 made it 35-6 with five matches remaining.

At that point, Creekview needed nothing short of perfection—five straight falls or forfeits—to keep its title hopes alive.

Aaron Campbell started the rally with a second-period fall after building a 12-3 lead. Pierce Marsh followed with a fall at 150, Weston Wilkie delivered another at 157, and suddenly momentum had swung completely. Logan Pritchett added the fall at 165, setting up a winner-take-all final bout.

In the last match, Costen Wright was in full control, leading Zion Easley 15-2 in the second period before securing the fall—completing one of the most improbable comebacks in State Duals history and lifting Creekview to its second consecutive 5A state dual title.

Every year, 5A finds a way to raise the bar. This weekend, it may have set it higher than ever.

1A

Social Circle was the only top-4 seed to advance on Day 1, and the Redskins did so convincingly—rolling past Fitzgerald (68-9) and Wesleyan (66-10). Commerce punched its ticket with a dramatic 37-36 win over Trion after opening the day with a victory over McIntosh County Academy. Hogan Sims’ fall at 157 proved to be the difference-maker in the one-point win over Trion.

Elbert County also pulled off a notable upset, knocking off #3 seed Bremen 36-31 after dispatching Berrien County 69-9 in the opening round. Like Commerce–Trion, the match came down to the wire, with Hudson Fleming delivering a massive 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker victory to seal the win.

The surprise of the day in 1A belonged to Gordon Lee, which stunned #2 seed Toombs County 41-40. Noah Brown’s pin at 126 swung momentum, but it was Jenz Martin who iced the match with an 11-3 decision at 138. Gordon Lee wasn’t finished, following it up with a 41-38 win over Brantley County to keep the Cinderella run alive.

Chaos wasn’t reserved for just 1A—2A delivered plenty of drama as well. From everything I was told, the East Jackson gym was bouncing. The #7 seed and host Eagles opened with a 62-17 win over Pike County before stunning #2 seed Lovett 42-34. East Jackson closed the dual by winning the final three matches, completing a comeback from a 24-point deficit.

That wasn’t the only excitement in the bracket. Cook pulled off a narrow 38-36 upset of #3 seed Coahulla Creek, with Harrison Carnine and Rolando Gonzalez doing their jobs at the top of the Cook lineup to swing the dual.

The top half of the bracket was relatively quiet by comparison. Top seeds Rockmart and Columbus handled business to advance to the semifinals. Rockmart rolled past Callaway (78-6) and Ringgold (52-19), while Columbus defeated Salem (77-6) and Franklin County (49-26).

Finally, a class that went chalk. Jefferson left little doubt, dominating Mary Persons (73-6) and White County (71-6) to advance with ease. Gilmer followed suit on the top half of the bracket, rolling past Cairo (73-6) before pulling away from #5 seed West Laurens for a 53-25 win.

The bottom side of the bracket provided slightly more resistance, but the favorites still prevailed. Dawson County knocked off Howard (64-18) and then defeated Calhoun 43-20 in the closest quarterfinal dual of the class. While the final score was tighter, Dawson County seized control early with a decisive run from 126 through 144. Rounding out the semifinal field, #2 seed Troup County cruised past Mt. Zion (73-4) and Oconee County (54-18) to punch its ticket.

Chalk once again prevailed in 4A, as the top seeds took care of business across the bracket. On the top half, Woodland cruised past Pace Academy (78-3) before dispatching Cambridge 60-16. Harris County followed a more dramatic path, edging Marist 45-28 before rallying past Walnut Grove 46-29. The Tigers won the final four matches to complete a comeback from a 29-24 deficit—further reinforcing what was noted in the preview: Harris County can always count on its big guys to get the job done, and that proved true in the quarterfinals.

On the bottom side, #3 seed Ola rolled through Westminster (71-12) before taking down Ware County 51-24. #2 seed Cass rounded out the semifinal field with wins over Charles Drew (42-35) and Central Carroll (50-27). While the final score against Drew appeared close, Cass forfeited the final four weights after the dual was already in hand.

Chalk held once again in 5A. Top seed Creekview cruised into the semifinals with decisive wins over Habersham Central (69-11) and Villa Rica (66-12). #4 seed Dunwoody followed a much more dramatic path, defeating Gainesville 45-33 before surviving a thriller against Coffee. Dunwoody’s Wali Whited delivered the moment of the dual, scoring a fall in the final match to complete a stunning 35-34 comeback. Coffee had built a 28-9 lead, but Dunwoody reeled off four straight wins from 126 through 144 to keep the door open late.

The bottom half of the bracket also saw the favorites advance. #3 seed Jackson County handled South Paulding (50-22) before knocking off Seckinger 42-27, while #2 seed South Effingham rolled into the semifinals with dominant wins over Sequoyah (54-10) and Thomas County Central (68-10).

6A unfolded largely as expected. Camden made a statement, rolling into the semifinals without surrendering a single point—blanking North Gwinnett (83-0) and Archer (77-0). #4 seed Walton was tested along the way, edging Mill Creek 41-33 before pulling away from Carrollton for a 47-34 win to advance.

As anticipated, the second quarter of the bracket provided some of the better action. On the bottom half, West Forsyth cruised past South Gwinnett (70-6) before dispatching Tift County 42-30, while #2 seed Buford handled North Paulding (60-8) and Hillgrove (70-9) to punch its ticket to the semifinals. The opening-round matchups across the class delivered quality competition, just as expected.

Camden rolled to the title with a 43–26 win over Buford, and in many ways the tournament unfolded close to expectation — though there were still lessons that matter going forward.

At the top, the No. 1–4 seeds finished exactly in the top four, with the only shuffle coming between No. 3 and No. 4, where West Forsyth topped Brookwood and flipped their seeded positions. Camden and Buford both cruised to the finals, validating their pre-tournament standing. Nearly every quarterfinalist won its next dual, with the lone surprise coming from Hillgrove, which dropped its opener to Brookwood (40–29), then rebounded with two straight wins before falling to Mill Creek.

The deciding factor, once again, was bonus points. Across the tournament, 335 of 392 individual matches (28 duals × 14 bouts) — roughly 85% — ended with bonus points for one team or the other. That reality shaped every team outcome. Camden’s title run was built on it, with half of its lineup scoring a fall or tech fall in at least three of four duals. Buford followed a similar blueprint, as six of its 14 wrestlers produced repeated bonus points throughout the event.

No team illustrated the value of efficiency better than West Forsyth. Seven of its 14 wrestlers recorded a fall or tech fall in at least three of four duals, a major reason the Wolverines pushed all the way to third place. In a format where most matches don’t go the distance, getting bonus — or just as importantly, not giving it up — becomes the difference between advancing and going home. Last year’s numbers made that unmistakably clear.

Because the GHSA does not require match results to be entered into Trackwrestling, FloArena, or a similar centralized platform, the ability to build detailed, bout-by-bout previews in Georgia is inherently limited. I’d love to provide the same level of matchup depth and analytical detail that’s possible in Alabama and Florida, but the reality is that the data simply isn’t there.

Without consistent, accessible results — dual scores, individual outcomes, bonus rates, or even confirmed lineups — projecting specific matchups becomes far more speculative than analytical. That doesn’t mean meaningful insight is impossible, but it does mean previews must rely more heavily on conversations with coaches, results that are available, known personnel, and historical trends, rather than the kind of granular, evidence-based breakdowns available in states where reporting is standardized.

It’s a limitation worth acknowledging up front. The appetite for deeper analysis is clearly there, but until results are consistently reported across a common platform, Georgia previews will always lag behind what’s possible elsewhere, no matter the effort put into them.

There is no better team in Georgia than Camden County. In fact, in my opinion, they are the best public-school program in the Southeast — and only Lake Highland Prep sits ahead of them when you include private schools. Camden has won 11 straight state dual titles (12 total when you include 2012), and remarkably, this year’s team may be their best yet. That isn’t hyperbole. Camden trails only Jefferson in total dual titles, and the depth, balance, and firepower of this lineup rival — and perhaps exceed — any Camden team we’ve seen before.

They enter as the clear #1 seed, and despite the overall quality in 6A, no one appears capable of seriously threatening them. Teams like Buford and others will score points, but they won’t push Camden the way past challengers once did. Buford, the #2 seed, may very well be the second-best team in Georgia — that argument is fair — and their résumé backs it up. The Wolves own five state dual titles, but Camden’s dominance has kept them in second place five times, tying them with Alexander and Bremen and sitting just behind Gilmer and Woodland for most runner-up finishes since 2009 — an impressive stat, even if it’s not the one you want to lead with.

West Forsyth checks in as the #3 seed and continues to be one of the most consistent programs in the state. This marks their 12th appearance since 2009, with a strong 32-16 record and nine top-four finishes, including last season. They’ve reached the finals twice but are still chasing that first championship. Walton, the #4 seed, has fewer historical appearances, but they represent a program clearly on the rise.

6A is loaded with quality programs, tradition, and depth — but none approach the level of sustained dominance that Camden County brings to the mat.

Top Side of the Bracket

Camden is the top seed, and I’ve already gone into detail as to why. Past accomplishments tell a story, but they promise nothing about what comes next. Still, this Camden team looks fully prepared to make it a perfect 12 straight titles. I could dive into the lineup, list the nationally ranked hammers, and try to identify where opponents might steal points — but that almost misses the point. The clearest way to understand how dominant Camden is comes from this simple reality: they routinely send their B and C teams to tournaments and win them. Not individual matches — entire tournaments. The second-best team in the state might already be in the room with Camden’s A lineup. That isn’t exaggeration. I’ve heard coaches in Georgia and Florida utter those very words.

So instead, let’s talk about the rest of the top quarter. North Gwinnett draws Camden in the opening round, which is about as tough a draw as you can get, but this is still a group that will compete. Led by returning State Placer Nicolas Owens at 132 along with Kaleb Lam at 120 and James Indorf at 113, North Gwinnett won’t back down. Sharing the quarter are North Forsyth and Archer, two programs with real podium history. Archer owns four state titles, the most recent coming in 2016, while North Forsyth has reached the finals three times since 2009. Both squads are leaning on newer faces this season. North Forsyth is led by returning state qualifiers Colt Snook at 113 and Tyler Coulter at 190, but to knock off Archer they’ll need contributions from Landeon Goudy at 157, Logan Holst at 165, and others. Archer has been paced by returning state placers Jeremiah Toe at 132 and Kenechi Odimgbe at 150, along with Imhotep Henderson at 190 and Mason Camp in the middle of the lineup.

The second quarter of the bracket features the #4 seed Walton alongside Mill Creek, Harrison, and Carrollton, and both opening-round matchups are compelling. Walton versus Mill Creek jumps off the page because both teams feature elite hammers who will be wrestling for individual state titles in a few weeks. Walton brings returning state placers Nathaniel Park at 150, Mihai Necula at 157, and Jake Rheaume at 175, while Mill Creek counters with returning state champions Teequavious Mills at 120 and Antonio Mills at 132 or 138. With those weights likely canceling out via bonus, the dual may be decided elsewhere — names like Brandon Whiteford at 165 and Ethan Taub at 113 for Walton, or Landon Rhie at 190 and Allen Cusimano at 106 for Mill Creek could swing the outcome.

Harrison and Carrollton present a similar dynamic. Harrison is solid throughout the lineup but especially dangerous up top with returning state placers Jayce Salvemini at 175 and David Rudd at 190, along with state qualifier Adam Price at 215. How far Harrison goes could hinge on performances from Christian Carroll at 126, Jayden Hawkins at 150, and Avery Maisano at 157. Carrollton will counter with returning state placer Sutton White at 126, Connor Stephens at 165, and key contributors like Jordan Bhonny at 106, Carson Moore at 132, and Jonathan Walton at 215. Like Walton and Mill Creek, this dual may come down to which team gets more from the rest of the lineup once the heavy hitters trade bonus.

Bottom Side of the Bracket

The third quarter of the bracket features the #3 seed West Forsyth alongside South Gwinnett, East Coweta, and Tift County. West Forsyth is anchored at both ends of the lineup with Derik Kiefer at 106 and returning State Champion Tim Hyrbu at 285, but this is far more than a top-and-bottom team. Freshman Isaac Jung at 120 already looks like one of the favorites to win an individual title in a few weeks, and the depth continues with returning state placers Zane Bovenizer at 165 and Alex Blanc at 126, Brooks McDonald at 132, Huan Larson at 215, and others who make West Forsyth a very tough out in a dual format. South Gwinnett will lean on returning state qualifier Nilon Thomas at 150, though they are also a reminder of the challenge created by limited results being entered into Trackwrestling - what their lineup looks like is anyone’s guess. East Coweta has put together a strong season and draws a difficult opening-round matchup with Tift County. The Indians are led by returning state qualifiers Jayden Ramone at 113 and Deonta McIntosh at 165, with Gregorio Lepoma at 175, Mason Glick at 120, Ben Thrailkill at 150, and others giving them balance throughout the lineup. Tift County looks very similar on paper — solid across the board with no glaring holes. Returning state placer Javon Bateman at 165/175 and state qualifier Bo Bryant at 126 lead the way, but Tift will need points from Kellan Lucas at 138, Levi Green at 113, Kaleb Ritter at 120, and Austin King at 150 if they are going to advance.

The bottom quarter of the bracket features the #2 seed Buford alongside North Paulding, Brookwood, and Hillgrove — a true who’s who of 6A programs. We’ve already covered Buford, but North Paulding, Brookwood, and Hillgrove have all been mainstays at this stage for years. Brookwood is making their 13th appearance since 2009 with three top-four finishes, Hillgrove is back for the sixth time, and North Paulding for the seventh. Buford is clearly the team to watch. The Wolves are tough throughout the lineup, but especially dangerous down low with Ariah Mills at 113, Cooper McArthur at 120, Chris Metz at 126, and DJ Clarke at 138/144. Add in Jaiden Oliver, Callum McCormack, and Grey Richardson, and very few teams can keep pace. Freshman hammer Cody Clarke has missed time with injury, but if he returns, Buford becomes even more dangerous — even if fitting him into an already loaded lower lineup isn’t easy. North Paulding brings legitimate firepower of their own, led by returning state placers Ben Southern at 126 and Wesley Rakestraw at 285. A potential Richardson vs. Rakestraw matchup at heavyweight would be must-see. Jackson Lane at 150, Easton Estes at 144, Kingsley Simpson at 215, and Timothy Jewell at 165 are additional names to watch. North Paulding may not be favored to knock off Buford, but they will not go quietly. Brookwood enters with a deep and dangerous lineup led by returning state placer Michael Heath at 175, with returning state qualifiers Maxwell Monroe at 106, Jacob Chan at 120, Tahir Charles at 126, Jackson Rogers at 150, and Calib Cameron at 165 giving them podium potential once again. They draw Hillgrove in the opening round, a team led by returning state qualifiers Jet Shaul at 113, Will Desanto at 138, and Demetrius Heywood at 190. For Hillgrove to pull the upset, wrestlers like Iago Da Silva, Kevin Carmack, and others will need to step up in a big way.

Prediction:

Everyone loves predictions, so we’ll take our shot. Just remember — predictions miss more often than not. Take it all with a grain of salt.

The bracket largely followed form early, with the top four seeds powering into the semifinals, but the chaos that defines 5A quickly followed. In the semis, No. 4 Creekview stunned South Effingham 42–35, while No. 2 Glynn Academy rolled Jackson County 58–15 to set up a high-octane finish. On the backside, every team that fell in the championship quarterfinals rebounded with at least one win. Coffee’s run was particularly impressive, stringing together three straight wins to reach the top four before eventually falling to South Effingham.

The championship itself was emblematic of the tournament. Creekview edged Glynn Academy 37–33 to claim the title, adding to a growing list of razor-thin duals that defined the weekend — including Coffee over Jackson County (36–35) and Newnan over Woodward Academy (38–36). Those results underscored a familiar truth in dual tournaments: bonus points, close matches, and lineup matchups often matter more than star power alone.

The numbers back it up. Across 392 individual matches, falls and technical falls accounted for roughly 65% of all outcomes, reinforcing just how rarely bouts go the distance. South Effingham led the field in bonus production, averaging 8.75 falls or tech falls per dual (out of 14 bouts), followed by Glynn Academy (7.25) and Creekview (6.5). Importantly, those figures exclude major decisions — making the separation even more telling.

What ultimately pushed Creekview over the top was flexibility. Over the course of four duals, the Grizzlies shifted their lineup at eight different weights, consistently hunting favorable matchups. Glynn Academy leaned into that approach even more aggressively, using 12 different wrestlers across 14 weights. Compare that to Pope, which never changed a single weight all tournament. In a division where margins are razor thin, the ability to maneuver lineups and avoid giving up bonus may be the difference between a trophy run and an early exit. As this weekend approaches, 5A has already shown what will matter most: matchups, adaptability, and controlling bonus points.

Creekview enjoyed a true breakthrough a year ago, claiming the first dual state title in program history with a win over Glynn Academy. It was a long time coming for a program that has been a fixture at the state duals for more than a decade, as this season marks Creekview’s 13th appearance since 2009 with a solid 34–19 all-time record at the event. Prior to last season, they had finished in the top four six times and reached the finals before, but the championship had always been just out of reach. South Effingham enters 2026 as the #2 seed and is no stranger to the top of the podium either, having captured back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. Like Creekview, South Effingham was a consistent presence for years before finally breaking through, and now the question becomes whether they can reclaim the crown or if Creekview can turn last year’s title into the start of something bigger. Beyond those two, the rest of the field is wide open and hungry. Teams like #3 seed Jackson County and #4 seed Dunwoody have never won a duals state title, and historically only two teams other than Creekview and South Effingham in this field have even reached the finals before—Jackson County in 2016 and South Paulding in 2017, who fittingly collide in the opening round this year. Add in programs like Brunswick, a two-time top 4 finisher most recently in 2022, and Coffee, who made the podium last season, and the stage is set for a compelling question: does 5A see Creekview or South Effingham move closer to “dynasty” status with another title, or does the class crown a new first-time champion and add another name to the history books?

Top Side of the Bracket

Creekview enters the tournament as the top seed, and based on the makeup of their lineup, it’s hard to argue otherwise. The Grizzlies are anchored by returning state champion Jackson Locke at 285—assuming he is back to full strength after missing time earlier this season—and a proven core of state placers in Aaron Campbell at 150, Weston Wilkie at 157, and Costen Wright at 190. They also bring depth and flexibility with state qualifiers Jack Cory at 113, Ty Warren at 132, Logan Pritchett at 157/165, and Damion Moreno at 215. That balance is critical, because Creekview is not a team that overwhelms opponents at just a few weights—they will need contributions throughout the lineup if they are going to repeat as champions. Their opening-round draw is Habersham Central, a solid squad led by returning state placer Javonte Bowen at 285 and state qualifiers Chase Cook at 126, Christian Saravia at 132, and Jayden Garrison at 175. Habersham can score in spots, but they will need to limit bonus early to stay within striking distance. The top quarter also includes Brunswick and Villa Rica, setting up an intriguing contrast in styles. Brunswick is battle-tested after knocking off Glynn Academy last weekend to punch their ticket and brings a deep, physical lineup highlighted by returning state placer Tripp Rowell at 285 and a large group of state qualifiers. The Pirates are particularly dangerous through the middle weights with Ryan Sanders, Joe Demery, Joel Fuel, Jakobi Allen, Semaj Dobbins, and Travis McCrimmon all capable of swinging a dual. Villa Rica doesn’t have quite the same depth, but they do have proven hammers in returning state qualifiers Tate Sauls, Julian Newman, Elias Hooks, and Bishop Barfield. If Villa Rica is going to upset Brunswick, it will likely come from stealing a few key matches in the middle and turning those into momentum-building wins.

The second quarter of the bracket feels as balanced as any in the field, featuring #4 seed Dunwoody alongside Gainesville, Coffee, and McIntosh. Dunwoody’s formula starts down low with Dylan Lynn at 120 and Jared Katz at 126 before transitioning into a strong upper half of the lineup led by returning state placers David Remigailo at 175 and Wali Whited at 157. What makes Dunwoody dangerous, though, is that they aren’t reliant on just a couple of names—wrestlers like Luke McSorley and Gray Roberts allow them to score up and down the lineup. Gainesville draws Dunwoody in the opening round and profiles as a similar type of team, one that relies on collective effort rather than overwhelming star power. State qualifiers Rowan Kennedy at 126 and Adrian Canas at 175 are key pieces, but Gainesville’s chances hinge on younger wrestlers such as Jack Ramsey, Carter Lankford, and Braylen Vollrath stepping up in big moments. The other matchup pits Coffee against McIntosh in a compelling clash of experience and matchups. Coffee was a top-four team a year ago but graduated a large portion of that lineup, yet the Trojans remain dangerous with freshman Reggie Smith at 113, state qualifier Brayden Stevens at 126, and upper-weight contributors like Jacari Manning, Rich Rewis, and William Vivar. Jackson County feels poised for a breakthrough after years of knocking on the door in 5A, and they enter with a lineup that can score from top to bottom. Returning state placers Mikey Castro at 132 and Daylan Maxwell at 175 provide proven firepower, while a deep supporting cast that includes Donavan Spry, Tyler Neese, Sam Donaldson, Beau Hoffman, Brandt Weatherly, and Alonso Ortiz gives them answers at nearly every weight. South Paulding is coming off an impressive run to true second in a rugged region and has shown they can scrap with anyone. The Spartans are anchored by John Badami, Jackson Carr, and Colton Stokes, but to truly threaten Jackson County they will need secondary contributors to steal matches and prevent bonus. The Decatur–Seckinger matchup guarantees at least one program earns its first state-duals win, and the contrast in styles makes it compelling. Decatur leans on strength up top with Lucian Brock, Noah Jones, and Nasir Braxton, while freshman Ashton Glasgow at 126 is their true hammer. Seckinger, meanwhile, mirrors Decatur’s strength in the upper weights, led by returning state placer Jose Urdaneta Silva at 285 and a group of state qualifiers in Andrew Turenne, Flavio Drittlhuber, and Zacariah Walker, with Kymani Tinsley and Gavin Newton anchoring the lower end. How these teams handle the overlapping strengths could decide who survives this quarter.

The bottom quarter is headlined by a red-hot South Effingham as the #2 seed, joined by Sequoyah, Newnan, and Thomas County Central. South Effingham’s opening matchup with Sequoyah should immediately test just how real their title push is. Sequoyah has quality pieces, led by returning state placer Jaxen Turley and a solid core including Tyler Patterson, Josiah Cranston, Omar Asgarli, and Treaghan Connell, but their biggest obstacle is matching the depth South Effingham brings to the mat. The Mustangs can pressure teams early and often with contributors like Christopher Hardeman, Andreo Manlove, Grant Lee, Mayson Young, Bear Bringer, Riley Atkins, and Kevin Steptoe, making it difficult to find breathing room anywhere in the lineup. On the other side, Newnan and Thomas County Central square off in a dual that could hinge on whether Newnan’s star power can outweigh TCC’s balance. Newnan boasts an elite hammer in returning state champion Jackson Waters at 215 and has strength up top with Noah Williams and Jaden Dutton, but they will need production from Aiden Torres, Ethan Fernandez, and Michaya Parks to control the lower weights. Thomas County Central counters with five returning state qualifiers in Ean O’Neal, Marques Peak, Wade Clark, Malachi Gaskins, and Kadrein Suckie, and if that group can turn consistency into bonus points, they are capable of swinging not just this matchup, but potentially making noise deeper in the bracket.

Cass entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed, but given what they’ve done in recent years, no one was overlooking them a year ago. As expected, the top four teams advanced to the semifinals and ultimately finished in the top four, just not in the order suggested by the seeds. The bracket set up Central Carroll vs. Cass in the top semifinal, with Ola vs. Woodland on the bottom side.

The Central Carroll–Cass semifinal played out exactly as anticipated — a true back-and-forth dual with each team winning seven matches. The difference was bonus points. Central Carroll earned four gritty decision wins from Thornton, Thomasson, Krutules, and Hoffman, but they couldn’t slow Cass’s bonus production. Cass scored bonus in every one of its wins except one, a hard-fought decision by Hunter Barrett over Chris Phillips, and that separation proved decisive.

On the other side, Woodland created a bit more breathing room against Ola, winning eight bouts and collecting bonus in all but one, cruising to a 41–29 semifinal victory.

The finals followed a familiar script — and one we’re likely to see again this weekend. Two quality teams, a tightly contested dual, and small margins deciding the outcome. Cass took eight matches this time, and while bonus again mattered, it was two crucial decision wins by John Abernathy and Luke Jensen that tipped the scale, as Cass claimed a 38–30 championship victory.

As we’ve seen across other classes, bonus points are critical, though perhaps not quite as overwhelming here as elsewhere. Cass finished third in total falls and tech falls, trailing Central Carroll and Ola. What separated Cass and Woodland (a year ago and perhaps this year as well) was their ability to be opportunistic — scoring bonus when it was there and not giving up bonus. Cass, in particular, has a clear identity. They don’t shuffle the lineup much, everyone knows their role, and that consistency continues to pay dividends.

NOTE: Any reference to historical stats below are for 2009 through 2025. We are still collecting information from 2002 through 2008 (except for a mention of the number of titles). All number of appearances, top four finishes, etc. are counted from 2009-2025.

Because the GHSA does not require match results to be entered into Trackwrestling, FloArena, or a similar centralized platform, the ability to build detailed, bout-by-bout previews in Georgia is inherently limited. I’d love to provide the same level of matchup depth and analytical detail that’s possible in Alabama and Florida, but the reality is that the data simply isn’t there.

Without consistent, accessible results — dual scores, individual outcomes, bonus rates, or even confirmed lineups — projecting specific matchups becomes far more speculative than analytical. That doesn’t mean meaningful insight is impossible, but it does mean previews must rely more heavily on conversations with coaches, results that are available, known personnel, and historical trends, rather than the kind of granular, evidence-based breakdowns available in states where reporting is standardized.

It’s a limitation worth acknowledging up front. The appetite for deeper analysis is clearly there, but until results are consistently reported across a common platform, Georgia previews will always lag behind what’s possible elsewhere, no matter the effort put into them.

Fifty programs have won a state duals title in Georgia since the duals began in 2001–2002. Few have won more than one, and even fewer have climbed into truly elite company (winning multiple titles). That is exactly where the top two seeds in this bracket reside. Woodland, the #1 seed this weekend, owns five dual titles and has proven its staying power across multiple eras—claiming championships in 2003 and 2011 before reasserting dominance with three straight titles from 2019–2021. Most recently, Woodland fell to Cass in last year’s finals, but this remains an elite program with championship pedigree, and 2026 sets up as another opportunity for a deep run.

Cass, the #2 seed, has firmly established itself among the state’s premier programs, winning three titles in the last four seasons (2022, 2024, and 2025). Few teams embody the concept of “team wrestling” better than Cass. They consistently find ways to win, even when they are not the favorite. Cass is making its 14th appearance since 2009 and has compiled an impressive 41–15 state duals record over that span. After dropping a tight 38–35 region final to Woodland, Cass may not enter the weekend as the betting favorite—but history suggests counting them out would be a mistake.

Ola and Harris County round out the top four seeds, and both bring plenty of tradition of their own. Ola has reached the finals twice, most recently in 2024, but has yet to break through for a title. Whether 2026 is the year that changes remains one of the central questions of the bracket. Harris County has been consistently strong for more than a decade, making its ninth appearance since 2009, with its most recent top-four finish coming in 2023. Each of the top seeds has the pedigree to win a championship, but as history has shown, past success guarantees nothing once the duals begin.

Top Side of the Bracket

The top quarter of the bracket features the #1 seed Woodland along with Pace Academy, Jones County, and Cambridge. Woodland has clearly earned the top spot after downing Cass in the region finals and enters the tournament stacked with proven firepower throughout the lineup, though there are still a few question marks regarding availability. At full strength, Woodland could feature as many as seven returning state placers, including runners-up Paul Lanier at 175 and John Gill at 215. The bottom half of the lineup is anchored by returning placers Nick Weathersbee at 113 and Adrian Zapata at 126, while Nathan Cates at 150 and Owen Jones at 190 provide stability up top. The biggest unknown is whether Dylan Couey returns to the lineup after being sidelined since early in the season. Don’t overlook Cayden Bagely at 106 or Will Thomas at 285 either—both could prove pivotal if Woodland makes a deep run.

Pace Academy will look to Davin Coles at 132/138 and Jaren Amar at 165 to generate points, but knocking off Woodland would require near-perfection across the lineup. On the other side of the quarter, Jones County versus Cambridge is a compelling 8-vs-9 matchup. Jones County brings an experienced roster loaded with state tournament pedigree, led by state runner-up Arrie Martin at 165 and state placer Noah Pieterick at 144. They also return a deep group of state qualifiers including Hunter McCleskey, Dawson Walker, Nate Wilson, Shooter Lumley, Hunter Hardwick, Jacob Skinner, Luke Thompson, and Barrett Rosenberger. Despite all that experience, Jones County has never finished in the top four—2026 could be the year that changes, but first they must get past Cambridge. Cambridge will lean heavily on returning state placer Walker Thomas at 190 and state qualifier Mykyta Liutyi at 126, and they’ll need key contributions from JD Ginn, Jett Fusco, Liam Smith, and Manny Brown if they hope to pull the upset.

The second quarter of the bracket features the #4 seed Harris County along with Marist, Walnut Grove, and Wayne County, and this section of the draw feels as tight and unpredictable as any in the field. Harris County brings back a strong core led by returning state placer Easton Boren at 175 and state qualifiers Jamie Lewis at 113, Chase Rust at 126, and Jaxon Barnett at 138. As has often been the case, Harris is especially tough up top with Jayce Britt at 190, Antonio Ruiz at 215, and Wesley Sappington at 285 anchoring the lineup. They draw Marist in the opening round, a matchup where Marist will lean on returning state placer Forrest Briesacher at 144 and state qualifier Matthew Maloney at 120. If Marist is going to pull the upset, seniors Campbell Caldwell at 150 and Reed McMichael at 175 will likely need to swing the dual in their favor.

On the other side of the quarter, Walnut Grove versus Wayne County shapes up as a true toss-up with momentum potentially shifting throughout the dual. Walnut Grove features returning state placers Keegan Dawkins at 138 and Graham Dawkins at 150, supported by Noah Van Name at 126, Matthew Adams at 157, and Eli Schuler at 175. Wayne County counters with four returning state qualifiers in Grover Mixell at 126, Jayden Leak at 144, Grayson Doomes at 157, and Trenton Hires at 190. Keep an eye on the 106 lb. matchup between Larry Lopez-Cortes and Rylan Williams - a match that could set the tone early if we begin down low. With depth, balance, and several potential swing weights, this quarter is absolutely one to watch.

Bottom Side of the Bracket

The third quarter of the bracket features the #3 seed Ola along with Westminster, North Oconee, and a dangerous Ware County squad, and it’s a section loaded with teams capable of making noise. Ola graduated a significant amount of talent from last year’s group, but the Mustangs continue to reload and remain firmly in the title conversation. They are led by returning state champion Xander Dossett along with Gabe Easey, Carson Kimbrough, Christian Papcun, Jeremy Reagin, and Jacob Diamond, forming a strong core that should carry them deep into the tournament. The difference between another solid run and a true breakthrough could come down to how well wrestlers like Tye Daniel, Colton Roberts, Anderson Becker, and others perform in pressure moments this weekend. Westminster will look to returning state placer Jackson Bailey at 150 to anchor their lineup, but for the Wildcats to seriously challenge Ola they will need meaningful contributions from Griggs Mealor at 106, Luca Bellman at 138, Clayton Clemmons at 190, and others stepping up across the lineup. Ware County may be the most dangerous team lurking on the bottom side of the bracket. The #6 seed brings back two state placers in Jordan Maxwell at 113 and Gunter Fore at 165, along with four returning state qualifiers in Jaden McKelvin at 150, Aaron Bennett at 157, Jalen Hampton at 215, and Kyler Matthews at 285. Ware has the ability to score points up top, but how far they advance will likely hinge on how competitive their lightweights can be against strong opposition.

The bottom quarter of the bracket features the defending state champions and arguably one of the best dual teams in the field in Cass. Cass simply knows how to win duals, consistently excelling in the areas that matter most: creating favorable matchups, generating bonus points, and limiting damage when things don’t go their way. They are led by returning state runners-up Mason Tompkins at 190 and Hunter Trimm at 126, along with state placers Rowdy Duck at 144, Luka Jensen at 150, David Jewell at 157, Ethan Harrington at 165, and John Abernathy at 285. Cass also has the kind of depth where a swing win from someone like Codey Dean at 215 or Gavin Walker at 120 could be the difference that pushes them back to the top of the podium. They open with Charles Drew, a tough draw for a Drew team that has pieces capable of making things interesting. How far Drew goes this weekend will likely depend on performances from Alveon Streeter at 132 and Jordan Blount at 165.

Central Carroll and St. Pius X round out the final two teams in the bracket, and both bring very different challenges. Central Carroll was hit hard by graduation and transfers, but the toughness and competitiveness of this group remain evident. Returning state runner-up Colt Mitchell, state placer Jayden Thomasson at 285, and state qualifier Jase Moore provide leadership, while Central’s ceiling may be determined by how well Caden Shope at 144, Talon Renfro at 150, Jake Martin at 157, and Kaleb Williamson at 215 wrestle this weekend. St. Pius X faces a different obstacle, not a lack of talent but potentially in terms of numbers, as any forfeits could prove costly against a solid Central Carroll lineup. Returning state placer John Soha at 120 leads the way, supported by state qualifiers Richard Burke at 126, Ben Tomasello at 132, Meco Favors at 150, and John DiCristina at 157. Freshman Aiden Nam at 106 is another name to watch and could be a key piece if St. Pius is going to overcome the odds and advance.

Few teams were as dominant on their way to a state title as Jefferson. No matter the classification, Jefferson has become the standard, and 2025 was simply another showcase of that dominance. Across 56 individual matches at the state duals, Jefferson dropped just 15 bouts — roughly 25% — while overwhelming every opponent they faced. Their march to the title included convincing wins over Dougherty (59–12), Heritage-Catoosa (53–19), Lumpkin County (45–30), and Troup (55–15). Keep in mind - they beat the #2, #3, and #4 teams in the podium. While many duals across 3A came down to a bout or two, Jefferson’s run stood apart in both separation and control.

Troup provided the weekend’s biggest surprise, emerging from an unseeded spot on the bottom half of the bracket to reach the finals. Along the way, Troup edged No. 3 Gilmer (39–38) and West Laurens (39–38) in back-to-back nail-biters before running into Jefferson in the championship. On the backside, the consolation finals featured two teams from the top half of the bracket, as No. 4 seed Lumpkin County met Heritage-Catoosa, further underscoring how competitive the field was outside of Jefferson’s path.

Looking back, bonus points again mattered, particularly for Lumpkin County and Heritage-Catoosa, both of whom relied on bonus production to fight their way into the consolation final. But Troup’s run highlighted another, often overlooked factor: not giving up bonus at critical moments. In the quarterfinals against Gilmer, Noah King’s 10–3 loss at 144 was difficult, but in a dual decided by a single point, his ability to avoid a major decision proved decisive. The same theme carried into the semifinals, where King fell 10–4 to Brody Johnson — again holding the margin to a regular decision in a dual that finished 39–38.

In a bracket filled with evenly matched teams, those moments mattered. Jefferson has captured 21 dual state titles in 24 seasons, doing so across five different classifications (1A–5A). That level of sustained dominance is unmatched in the state. The Dragons return as the defending 3A state champions and will look to add title No. 22 in 2026.

They enter the weekend as the top seed, and in truth, Jefferson stands clearly apart from the rest of the field. This isn’t just the best team in 3A — it’s one of the best teams in Georgia, regardless of class, and among the elite programs in the SE. Titles aren’t handed out before the first whistle, but it would be a genuine shock if anyone other than Jefferson walked away with the trophy.

The #2 seed Troup County is next in line after making an impressive run a year ago. Troup has steadily built a strong foundation and appears poised to contend for championships in the coming years. Despite its recent success, the Tigers have never won a dual state title, and last season marked their first-ever appearance in the finals.

At #3, Dawson County brings both history and momentum. A former champion in 2003 and 2004, Dawson has reemerged over the last few seasons and now firmly sits among the teams capable of making noise in 2026.

Rounding out the top four is Gilmer County, the #4 seed and one of the most accomplished programs in the state’s history. Gilmer ranks third all-time with nine dual titles, though their last came in 2016. Experience and pedigree are not lacking.

There will be quality wrestling throughout the 3A bracket, and the battle for podium spots should be entertaining. But make no mistake — Jefferson enters the weekend as the heavy favorite, and anything short of another Dragons title would be one of the biggest surprises of the season.

Top Side of the Bracket

Jefferson’s lineup is littered with future Division I hammers. Names like Dallas Russell, Roman Belardo, Ty Murray, Danny Krutules, Fischer West, and Cruz Hezel barely scratch the surface — the Dragons are deep from top to bottom and simply overwhelm teams across the lineup.

Mary Persons earned its first-ever trip to the state duals, a milestone moment for a program clearly on the rise. Unfortunately, the reward is a first-round date with Jefferson. Mary Persons brings solid depth and is led by returning State Placer Jayden McCraney, but they drew the short straw this time around.

The other teams in the top quarter are Stephenson and White County. Stephenson will lean on returning State Qualifiers Zakeed Whited and Kyrin Matthews, along with Badesire Lubala, to try and make noise. White County, however, may be the more dangerous of the two. The Warriors are anchored by returning State Runner-up Hunter Smith (126) and State Placer Connor Armstrong (215), with additional firepower from state qualifiers Josh Lane (157), Bryson Howe (190), and Jason Harkins (165). White County has the depth and balance to make a deep run in the tournament.

The second quarter of the bracket features Gilmer County, Cairo, West Laurens, and Jenkins — a group with real upside. Gilmer is led by returning State Runner-up Daniel Escobar (126) and State Placers Denny Ramirez (285), Braelyn Nelson (150), and Adolfo Bautista-Bautista (157). The Bobcats draw Cairo in the opening round. The Syrupmakers will look to returning State Placer Dominic Lombardo (150) and returning State Qualifier Angel Bastida (120), but Gilmer is a tough opening draw.

West Laurens once again brings a deep, well-balanced squad capable of making a run. The Raiders have finished in the top four seven times since 2009 and return State Placers Jayden Starley (132) and Jayden Watkins (190), along with State Qualifiers Brody Johnson (150), Maxx Chafin (215), Grayson Richards (113), and Sebastian Rodriguez (120). They have the pieces and the experience to contend. Jenkins will look to Firdawek Blair, Blaine Worthington, and others to compete, but realistically, knocking off West Laurens is a tall task.

If you’re in Jefferson for the weekend, circle the likely quarterfinal between Gilmer and West Laurens — that matchup has the potential to be one of the best duals in the 3A bracket with the winner getting a juggernaut in Jefferson in their home gym.

Bottom Side of the Bracket

The bottom side of the 3A bracket is intriguing largely because of the unknowns, but one thing is clear — Troup County is a legitimate contender. We’ve seen the Tigers this season, and the quality they return justifies their #2 seed.

Troup is led by returning State Champion Jonderrious Williams (126) and State Placer Emerson Hill (132/138), along with returning State Qualifiers Zane Taliaferro (285), Preston Strickland (138/144), Noah King (150), and Kam Huzzie (175). Perhaps the biggest difference-maker, though, is phenomenal freshman Javen Russo (113), who anchors the lightweights and gives Troup another reliable point scorer. The Tigers can score throughout the lineup, which is why they are firmly in the title conversation.

Troup draws Mt. Zion–Jonesboro in the opening round — a tough matchup for a young MZJ squad. Returning State Qualifiers Edgardo Vasquez (120) and Chase Lowe (150), along with Messiah Edwards (190), should put points on the board, but Mt. Zion will need much more to truly threaten Troup.

Also residing in this quarter are Oconee County and Long County. Oconee County should be competitive in spots, as usual, with returning State Placer Cael Moore (132) and State Qualifiers Hank Mannheimer (120), Benjamin Sayers (126), Dylan Doughtery (150), and Jesse O’Donnell (175) leading the way. Long County is a young team that will need production across the lineup. Returning State Qualifier T’Jayden Vaughn (157), along with Casey Dean (138) and Roman Stewart-Evans (113), provide a foundation, but for Long County to knock off Oconee County, new faces will have to step up and score.

The third quarter of the bracket features #3 seed Dawson County, along with Howard, Bainbridge, and Calhoun. Dawson brings eight wrestlers with 2025 state tournament experience, highlighted by State Champion Parker Voss (144/150), State Runner-up Aden Oglesby (138), and State Placers Ronan O’Keefe (190) and Brody Schuette (285). Those four should score in nearly every dual. The question becomes: who else steps up? How far Dawson goes may hinge on performances from Javen Jett (120), Brock Eckert (157), and Brandon Gillian (215).

Howard faces a difficult opening-round draw against Dawson. Returning State Qualifiers Tabais Williams (120), Horatio Lamar (126), and Jeremiah Taylor (150) will try to control the lower and middle weights, but missing entries at 106 and 113 puts Howard behind before the dual even begins.

Bainbridge looks strong down low with returning State Qualifiers Alex DeLeon (106) and Letuan Howard (132), along with Roderick Smith (113) and Diont’e Smith (144). However, how far the Bearcats advance will likely be determined by how they wrestle from 150–285. Calhoun could be a particularly tricky draw, as they can match Bainbridge in the lightweights with returning State Qualifiers Kohen Cusick (113) and Keagen Cusick (120), plus King Steele (138) and Jack Theus (144). They also bring quality up top with returning State Qualifier Erasmo Rabanales (215), Shep Akridge (175), and Micah Portivent (150).

When you lay out the strengths and weaknesses across the bracket, the seeding makes sense. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the top four seeds reach the semifinals, but don’t lose sight of a tough West Laurens squad on the backside — a team fully capable of grinding its way onto the podium.

Top seed Rockmart had to grind for every point on the way to its fourth state dual title, a number that puts the program in truly elite company. Unlike some classes where one team separates clearly, 2A’s top programs were tightly bunched, forcing contenders to find very specific edges to survive and advance.

Rockmart’s semifinal win over No. 4 seed Cook (46–30) looked dominant on paper, but the separation really came in one critical stretch from 285 through 132. With the dual tied, Chappell’s pin of Kyle Terrell at 285 ignited a run that Cook simply couldn’t recover from. That single moment flipped momentum and allowed Rockmart to stack points where its lineup was strongest.

On the bottom side of the bracket, Lovett handled its path with relative ease, setting up a championship showdown that proved just how evenly matched the two teams were. Meanwhile, Union County’s backside run — rebounding after an opening-round loss to Sonoraville and fighting all the way to the consolation finals — became one of the defining stories of the tournament.

The final between Rockmart and Lovett was as tight as it gets. Each team won seven matches, with key swing bouts throughout the lineup. Hayes Kennedy’s decision at 113 gave Lovett a boost, only for Tripp Clay to answer for Rockmart with a 9–8 decision over James Black at 138. In the end, the difference wasn’t bonus points or total wins — it came down to forfeits. Rockmart had none, while Lovett surrendered one at 285, creating the edge in a 38–38 dual that delivered the title to Rockmart.

So what separated 2A’s best? Not raw scoring or bonus volume. Lovett finished second in total falls and tech falls, while Rockmart ranked sixth, and overall point production among the top teams was remarkably similar. The true separator was matchups. Rockmart knew exactly where its strengths lived in the lineup and leaned on those hammers at the right moments.

Whether it was Bowman’s major decision over Wallace at 113 against Cook (four weeks before Bowman would win a state title), Graham pushing Kennedy to a 6–3 loss in the finals (with Kennedy later becoming a state champion), or Chappell’s momentum-shifting pin in a tied dual, Rockmart consistently got just enough from the right spots. In a class defined by parity, those moments — not margins — were the difference between claiming a fourth state dual title and finishing somewhere else on the podium.

Because the GHSA does not require match results to be entered into Trackwrestling, FloArena, or a similar centralized platform, the ability to build detailed, bout-by-bout previews in Georgia is inherently limited. I’d love to provide the same level of matchup depth and analytical detail that’s possible in Alabama and Florida, but the reality is that the data simply isn’t there.

Without consistent, accessible results — dual scores, individual outcomes, bonus rates, or even confirmed lineups — projecting specific matchups becomes far more speculative than analytical. That doesn’t mean meaningful insight is impossible, but it does mean previews must rely more heavily on conversations with coaches, results that are available, known personnel, and historical trends, rather than the kind of granular, evidence-based breakdowns available in states where reporting is standardized.

It’s a limitation worth acknowledging up front. The appetite for deeper analysis is clearly there, but until results are consistently reported across a common platform, Georgia previews will always lag behind what’s possible elsewhere, no matter the effort put into them.

Since the GHSA Duals began in 2001–02, 50 programs have claimed a state duals title. Fewer than 30 have won more than one, fewer than 10 have won more than three, and that context helps explain just how rare sustained success is in this format.

Rockmart, the defending 2A state champions, sit firmly in elite company. With four state duals titles, the Yellow Jackets rank inside the top 10 all-time in Georgia and once again enter as the team to beat and the #1 seed. Their familiar rival, Lovett, is right behind them as the #2 seed. The Lions own three state titles and have been Rockmart’s primary challenger over the last several seasons, making another deep run feel almost inevitable.

Behind the top two, the bracket remains dangerous. Coahulla Creek enters as the #3 seed and continues to knock on the door of a breakthrough moment. Unlike the teams ahead of them, Coahulla Creek has never claimed a state duals title — a distinction that raises the question: is 2026 the year they finally break through? The #4 seed Columbus brings its own pedigree, having won two state titles, and is more than capable of playing spoiler.

The rest of the field is filled with programs that understand how hard it is just to get here. Sonoraville continues to be one of the most consistent programs in the class, making their 14th appearance at the state duals with four finals appearances to their name. Their opening-round opponent, Cook County, is no stranger to the moment either, competing in the tournament for the 10th time and having finished in the top four twice.

And while experience often rules the day, it’s always worth recognizing the programs breaking through for the first time. In 2026, Salem and Kendrick are both making their state duals debut (dating back to at least 2009). Each draws one of the top teams in 2A in the opening round, but simply reaching this stage is a significant milestone and a sign of growth for both programs.

In a class defined by tradition, rivalries, and narrow margins, 2A once again shapes up as a grind — with Rockmart and Lovett setting the standard, and plenty of teams lining up for a chance to knock them off.

Top Side of the Bracket

We’ve already talked about Rockmart, but it’s worth digging a little deeper into why this year’s group has a legitimate shot to push the Yellow Jackets even further up the all-time ladder as they chase a fifth state duals title.

At this point, Rockmart has reached the gold standard of duals programs — they don’t rebuild, they reload. Yes, the headliners are still there:
Eli Bowman (113) and Hagen Sharp (150) remain tone-setters, while state placers Chaz Graham (120), Tripp Clay (126), and Colton Chappell (285) anchor the lineup with experience. But what separates this version of Rockmart from many contenders is the continued emergence of new contributors. Wrestlers like Kannon Chambers and Sawyer Johnson have stepped into varsity roles and kept the standard intact — a hallmark of programs that win titles over long stretches of time.

Rockmart opens with Callaway, which is a difficult draw for a young Cavaliers squad still building depth. That top quarter also includes Morgan County and Ringgold, two teams capable of making noise. Morgan County leans on returning state qualifier Jarett Standard (138) along with Lachlen Behrndt (132), Blake Atkinson (126), Kaleo Willcoxson (190), and Jit Ward (215) to stay competitive. Ringgold, meanwhile, has made a point to travel and test itself against high-level competition all season and enters battle-tested. The Tigers feature returning state placer Adam Mozingo and a deep group of returning state qualifiers including Jaylon Brownell (120), Gavin Alldering (106/113), Boston Chandler (132), Brody Eaton (138), James Kelly (144), and Luke Jones (175).

The second quarter of the bracket is one of the most compelling sections of the tournament, led by #4 seed Columbus. The Blue Devils are loaded with proven hammers, including state champion Ethan Secoy (190/215), state runner-up Gabriel Jacobus (157), and state placers Ryan Miller (175) and Cedric Montgomery (132). Columbus is strong across the lineup and draws Salem in the opening round. While Salem is largely overmatched, they’ll scrap behind returning state qualifiers Darryl Taylor (113), Najee McClain (126), and Isaiah Cage (175).

Columbus likely advances to face Franklin County, setting up what may be the most intriguing quarterfinal of the class. Appling County will not go quietly, leaning on returning state qualifier Bryson Thornton (113) and Edwin Burt (285), but Franklin County’s depth is difficult to overlook. The Lions return three state placers — Kayden Roberts (132), Josh Baughcum (150), and Zane Puff (175/190) — along with returning state qualifiers Colt Carroll (113) and Colton Roberts (157). In a class where matchups and bonus points swing outcomes, Franklin County’s balance makes them dangerous.

If Rockmart is going to claim title number five, they’ll have to navigate a field filled with experience, depth, and battle-tested opponents — but once again, they look built for exactly that kind of run.

Bottom Side of the Bracket

The bottom side of the bracket is absolutely fascinating and loaded with teams that can beat you in very different ways.

Lovett, the #2 seed, once again brings elite top-end talent. Just look back at last year’s state tournament and you’ll see returning state champions Hayes Kennedy (120), Xavier Mance (138), and Patrick Smyth (150). When Lovett is at full strength, those three alone can account for 18 points against almost anyone. Add in reliable wins from James Black and Henry Edmonds, and the Lions can control five weights in most duals.

The question — as it often is with Lovett — is depth. Five weights win you matches, but they don’t always win you championships. For Lovett to make a deep run, they’ll need production from the rest of the lineup, especially against teams built with balance from top to bottom.

That’s where squads like Coahulla Creek and Cook County come into play. Both are far deeper across the lineup and both bring serious firepower. Coahulla Creek features returning state runners-up Chevy Joyce (285) and Jackson Lowery (215) along with state placers Drake Goff (132), Danny Liddy (144), and Branson Lowery (190). Cook County, meanwhile, may be one of the deepest teams in the field. Coach Walker’s squad is led by returning state champion Kyle Terrell (285) and state placer Colton Bullard, with returning state qualifiers Timothy Walden (132), Jeremiah Amos (157), Maliq Vickers (165), Logan Kennedy (150), and Rolando Gonzalez (190) filling out a lineup that is difficult to attack.

A potential Cook County vs. Coahulla Creek quarterfinal jumps off the page, but Cook can’t afford to overlook Sonoraville in the opening round. The Phoenix return state placer Luke Mealer (126) along with Isaac Gallegos (126/132) and state qualifiers Karter Bone (132), Tristen Moran (157), and Branson Mathews (285) — enough firepower to punish mistakes. Glenn Hills, meanwhile, appears to be out of its depth in a quarter that could realistically feature three of the top four teams in 2A.

Lovett opens with Kendrick, who will lean on Nicholas Martin (120), Jariell Rivera (144), Malik Bowen (165), and Anthony Torres (190) to stay competitive. If Lovett handles that test, the Lions will quickly find themselves in far deeper waters.

The most intriguing first-round matchup on the bottom side may come in the 7-vs-10 pairing between East Jackson and Pike County. East Jackson brings a deep, experienced lineup highlighted by returning state runners-up Mason Smith (132) and Kole Smith (175), state placers Tristan Sloan (165) and Evan Reed (190), and a strong supporting cast of state qualifiers including Angel Rodriguez (120), Ryan Lampe (150), Chase Wingfield (190), and Dario Ferizovic (215). Pike County counters with returning state qualifiers Maddox Storm (157), Dalton Storm (165), and Noah Cash (215), but to overcome East Jackson’s depth, they’ll need multiple wrestlers outside that core to step up.

This half of the bracket is a true test of depth versus stars, and whichever team finds ways to steal points in the “swing” weights will be the one still standing when the dust settles.

Across the state, there may not have been a more dominant champion at the 2025 Dual State Tournament than Social Circle. The Redskins steamrolled the field, outscoring opponents 248–54, including emphatic wins over two of the top teams in 1A — Trion (61–15) in the semifinals and Toombs County (51–18) in the finals. The bracket largely held form, with the top four seeds finishing exactly as seeded, while Mt. Pisgah and Gordon Lee briefly pushed into the conversation before falling in the consolation semifinals. Toombs County emerged from the bottom half after a gritty 33–30 win over Bremen, but ultimately couldn’t match Social Circle’s firepower in the championship dual.

In a class so thoroughly controlled by Social Circle, it’s difficult to single out one defining factor beyond sheer depth and scoring power. Yet away from the champion’s path, 1A was filled with tight, dramatic duals over the two days. Results like Bremen over Commerce (39–29), Toombs over Bremen (33–30), Trion over Gordon Lee (39–34), and Bremen over Mt. Pisgah (41–39) all highlighted just how thin the margins were for everyone else in the bracket.

In those matchups, success came down to capitalizing on moments. Bonus points mattered. Matchups mattered. But often, it was simply about gutting out close wins. Wyatt Bunch’s 3–2 decision over Elijah Karr proved to be the difference in Toombs County’s win over Bremen. Likewise, Clayton Loughridge’s 9–8 victory over James Slatton at 165 swung Trion’s narrow win against Gordon Lee.

What’s notable is that neither of those pivotal moments came at the end of the dual. They happened in the middle of the lineup, long before the final score was known. Yet when all the cards were finally played, those bouts loomed large. That’s the enduring lesson. You never know which moment will matter most, and sometimes the exchanges that feel routine in real time end up shaping the entire outcome once the dust settles.

Social Circle enters as the top seed, and it’s not just a “best in 1A” situation. In reality, they’re one of the best teams in Georgia regardless of class, and they’ve carried that reputation across state lines as well. They’ve won the last two state dual titles, recently placed top-five at the Knockout in Florida, and even notched a marquee dual win over 6A runner-up Buford a couple weeks ago. The biggest takeaway: this lineup doesn’t have holes, which is why the top half of the bracket feels like Social Circle’s to lose.

On the bottom side, Toombs County sits as the #2 seed after finishing as last year’s runner-up. And this isn’t a program learning the stage — Toombs has been at the state duals 14 years prior to this season, reached the top four eight times, and made the finals four times. The question hanging over the bracket is a fair one: is 2026 the year Toombs breaks through and finally finishes the job? Right behind them are #3 Bremen and #4 Trion, two programs with plenty of their own postseason scar tissue and experience (and championships - Bremen has 4 titles, Trion has 2).

One more storyline worth circling: every program in the field has been here before — except one. Northeast Magnet (Macon) makes its state dual debut and gets no easing-in period, drawing longtime power Bremen in the opening round.

Top Side of the Bracket

On the top side of the bracket, Social Circle stands clearly apart. The Redskins have won the last two state dual titles, recently finished top five at the Knockout in Florida, and added a statement win over 6A runner-up Buford just a couple of weeks ago. Simply put, there are no holes in this lineup. While duals are never automatic, Social enters as the heavy favorite to advance out of this half.

One of the more intriguing first-round matchups features Irwin County vs. Wesleyan. Irwin County could be vulnerable at the very bottom of the lineup (106 and 113), but they counter with a dependable group capable of producing points through the middle and upper weights — Dylan Maddox (120), Joshua Gibson (126), Gauge Ussery (150), Jesus Villalon (157), Mitchell Dorminy (165), and Owen Griffin (215). Wesleyan, meanwhile, will lean on Sawyer Seebeck (138), David Eaton (150), Winston Wu (157), and Jinseo Chung (215) to try and swing momentum. Realistically, though, none of the teams in this quarter — Fitzgerald included — project as serious threats to Social Circle head-to-head. The more compelling storyline may be how those teams rebound and position themselves on the backside.

The second quarter of the top half brings a different kind of intrigue with Trion and Commerce, two programs rich in history and clearly peaking at the right time. Commerce, which draws McIntosh County Academy, will lean heavily on its middle-of-the-lineup firepower. Returning state qualifiers Emory Moss (132), Thomas Morgan (138), William Cox (157), Rivers West (190), along with state placer Hogan Sims (157), form the backbone of their attack. McIntosh County Academy counters with quality of its own in returning state placers DaMontae Holland (120) and Eric Jackson (126), plus returning state qualifier George Campbell (190).

Trion enters riding momentum after capturing its 10th region/area title, and the Bulldogs appear to be finding their best form as the postseason ramps up. Returning state placers Clayton Loughridge (165) and Silas Mills (126) anchor the lineup, joined by 106-pound hammer and returning state qualifier Sammy Edgeworth and 190-pound returning state qualifier Brandon Chandler. Temple looks to make noise by leaning on its upper weights, led by returning state placer Robert McCoy (190) and returning state qualifiers Cooper Xayabouth-Jones (157) and Tim Brown (175).

The bottom line is straightforward: Social Circle is simply the best team in the field, and it would be a major surprise if anyone else emerged from the top side to reach the finals. That doesn’t diminish the value of the early-round battles — especially in the second quarter of the bracket and on the backside — but make no mistake, Social should be wrestling for a title when the dust settles.

Bottom Side of the Bracket

The bottom half of the bracket is loaded with quality programs, but Toombs County and Bremen clearly sit at the front of the pack. Bremen brings hammers at multiple spots in the lineup, led by returning state runner-up Elijah Karr (138), returning state placers Tucker Karr (144) and Alonzo Edmerson (285), along with returning state qualifiers Ethaen Shroyer (120), Logan Johnson (157), and Elijah Elison (157). Their opening-round opponent, Northeast Magnet, may be making its tournament debut, but they are far from overmatched. Northeast features a pair of tough freshmen in Reymere Burgess (106) and Raymont Burgess (126), plus returning state qualifiers Ternez McCoy (120) and Idris Muhammad (150). Bremen should be favored, but Northeast has enough talent to put some points up.

The third quarter of the bracket includes two teams capable of shaking things up. Berrien County brings experience with returning state qualifiers Luke Solomon (113), Bearin Morgan (138), Brady Solomon (150), and Christian Reliford (157/165). They are paired with an Elbert County squad that may be the most dangerous sleeper in the field. Elbert returns five state placers — Lane Fleming (106), Cruz Floyd (113), Hudson Fleming (165), Brycin Hughes (175), and Lincoln Blackmon (215) — giving them point-scoring potential across the lineup and the ability to pressure opponents in close duals.

In the bottom quarter, Toombs County returns an impressive core and enters as the clear favorite to advance. The Bulldogs are led by state champions Walker and Wyatt Bunch (132/138), along with state placers Lukas Young (120), Tyson Brantley (157), and Lucas Coley (175). They draw Gordon Lee in the opening round, a program that always carries postseason pedigree. Gordon Lee counters with two-time state champion Noah Brown and state placer John Murtaugh (285), giving them firepower, but they will need a few upsets to get the win over a tough Toombs squad.

The other first-round matchup in this quarter features Mt. Pisgah and Brantley County and has the potential to be a grinder. Mt. Pisgah leans on its hammers — Pierre Nelson (126/132), Christian Lange (165), and Steele Brown (215) — but will need contributions from the rest of the lineup to get past a deep Brantley County squad. Brantley may not have as many top-end names, but they are built for duals with depth throughout the lineup, led by returning state placer Payton Perez (175) and returning state qualifiers Aubrey Carter (285), Rylan Benton (126), and Keller Stringer (113).

Make no mistake — the seeds look right, and Toombs County and Bremen should be on a collision course in the semifinals with a spot in the finals on the line. That said, Elbert County is absolutely a team to keep an eye on. If the breaks fall their way, they are showing the kind of balance that can turn this bottom half upside down.

Area 1 - Camden tops Houston County in the finals; Richmond Hill takes true 2nd

Camden controlled the pace throughout, pulling away for a 54–21 win over Houston County behind a wave of early and mid-lineup falls. Camden set the tone quickly, opening with rapid pins at 130 and 135, then answering Houston’s win at 140 with back-to-back falls from Delaney Spencer (145) and Trinity Kussmaul (155) to stretch the margin to 24-6.

After a brief Houston push at 190 and 235, Camden slammed the door in the lower weights. Falls from Shamise Vila (100), Breanna Higgins (105), Peyton Rego (110), Anneliese Rutherford (120), and Callie DeLorenzo (125) rebuilt separation and put the dual out of reach. The steady accumulation of bonus points across the lineup underscored Camden’s depth and proved decisive in the lopsided final score.

For True 2nd: Ava Spence come through in a huge way for Richmond Hill as her fall at 135 sealed the comeback win 42-41 over Houston County.

Area 2 - Greenbrier tops Grovetown for the Area 2 title

Greenbrier rolled to a convincing 60–22 win over Grovetown, piling up bonus points across the lineup and pulling away early. Greenbrier set the tone with a quick fall at 120 by Esperanza Huitron and followed with a dominant stretch through the middle weights, highlighted by pins from Josie McQuillan (130), Abigail Sekajipo (140), Malee Head (145), and Jaidyn Smith (155), along with a forfeit at 135. Greenbrier led 36-6 at the halfway point.

Grovetown found some success with falls at 125, 170, and 190 and a major decision at 115, but Greenbrier consistently answered to keep the gap wide. Forfeits at 100, 110, and 235, combined with a fall from Elka Stancoven at 105, sealed the outcome as Greenbrier’s depth and finishing ability proved overwhelming from start to finish.

Area 3 - Morrow downs Woodward Academy for the Area 3 title

Area 2 - Pierce County tops Baldwin 54-30 for the title

Pierce County used early momentum and key bonus points to pull away from Baldwin for a 54–30 victory. Pierce County opened strong with a forfeit at 100 and back-to-back lightning-fast pins at 105 and 110 to jump ahead, setting the tone before the middle weights traded momentum.

Baldwin answered with a trio of quick falls at 115, 120, and 125 to briefly swing the dual back, but Pierce County responded decisively. Forfeits at 130, 170, and 235, combined with falls from Elizabeth Insalaco (135), Joselyn Barrera (145), and Zinique Hightower (190), rebuilt and extended the lead. Baldwin picked up bonus wins at 140 and 155, but Pierce County’s depth and timely answers throughout the lineup proved too much to overcome.

Area 3 - Putnam tops Oglethorpe for the Area 3 title

Putnam County dug themselves an early hole, spotting Oglethorpe County an 18–0 lead after back-to-back forfeits at 100 and 105 followed by a quick fall at 110. Putnam briefly swung momentum at 115 when Lily Armistead delivered a huge pin, but Oglethorpe immediately answered behind Akira Owens at 120 to restore a commanding 24–6 advantage.

That’s when Putnam County flipped the script. Consecutive bonus-point wins ignited a rally, starting with a forfeit at 125 and rapid-fire falls from Jade Mullis (130) and Jayda Dumas (135) to pull the War Eagles back into contention. After Oglethorpe picked up pins at 145 and 155 to slow the surge, Putnam closed strong down the stretch. Ashlyn Fuller’s fall at 170, followed by forfeits at 190 and 235, completed the comeback run and erased the early deficit. Despite the rough start, Putnam’s middle- and upper-weight push proved decisive, sealing a hard-fought 42–36 win.

Area 4 - Mt Zion - Jonesboro over Stone Mountain

Area 6 - Lumpkin County tops Gilmer for the title

Area 7 - Ridgeland tops Lafayette - Lafayette downs Dade County for true 2nd

Ridgeland wasted no time taking control, rolling to a 54–24 win over Lafayette behind an overwhelming early surge. Ridgeland opened with eight consecutive falls from 110 through 145, immediately putting Lafayette on its heels and building an insurmountable lead. Quick pins from Tori Hansard, Jersey Campbell, Rylee Cline, Rayne Hunter, Dezera Wells, Skyla Landor, and Alaina Shaver defined the tone, with bonus points piling up in rapid fashion.

Lafayette responded late with wins at 155, 170, 190, and 235, but the damage had already been done. Ridgeland finished the night with another fall at 105, punctuating a dominant, wire-to-wire performance.

Area 8 - Jefferson takes the title over North Oconee

Region 1 - Bainbridge over Cairo

Region 2 - Troup tops Mary Persons 63-12

Troup rolled through the day, first dismantling LaGrange 60–12 and then overpowering Mary Persons 63–12 in the finals to claim the title. In the championship dual, Troup jumped out early and never looked back, stacking bonus points from the opening whistle. Falls from Calvin Waters, Preston Strickland, Hank Muhr, Eian Ledford, Zane Taliaferro, Jose Zamorano, and Javen Russo, along with major decisions by Aaron Ellison and Jonderious Williams, quickly put the dual out of reach. Mary Persons found brief success at 175 and 190, but Troup’s depth across the lineup kept the margin lopsided from start to finish.

Mary Persons regrouped in the true second dual, knocking off LaGrange 54–27 to secure the runner-up spot. The Bulldogs set the tone early as Hyrum Fossum, Sheldyn Scoggins, and Cully Tallent sparked an 18–0 start that LaGrange never overcame. Late falls from Reid Young, Jayden McCraney, and Conner Carr closed the door, sending Mary Persons on to the postseason with true second in hand.

Region 3 - Long County over Jenkins

West Laurens dominated 3A-4, rolling through the region with decisive wins over Howard (68–12) and Baldwin (69–8) to claim the title. In the finals, West Laurens put the dual out of reach immediately, opening with nine straight forfeits from 106 through 157 to build an insurmountable lead before the contested matches even began. They added to it with a tight decision from Zo’Rian Willis at 175 and emphatic falls by Jayden Watkins (190) and Maxx Chafin (215), sealing another lopsided victory.

Region 1 - Ware County over Wayne County for the Region 1 title

Ware County took care of business throughout the day, rolling past Benedictine 84–0 in the semifinals before closing out the title with a 49–18 win over Wayne County in the finals. Ware’s depth and bonus-point production proved overwhelming in both duals, as they controlled the action from the opening whistle and left little doubt about the championship outcome.

Wayne County secured second place after edging No. 2 seed Perry 42–41 in a dramatic semifinal decided by criteria (most falls). That narrow win sent Wayne into the finals and ultimately earned them the runner-up spot, while Ware County punched its ticket in dominant fashion.

Region 2 - Ola tops Jones County

Region 3 - Harris County downs Central Carroll 38-29

Region 4 - Charles Drew over Pace Academy

Region 5 - St Pius X over Marist

Woodland powered its way into the title match with decisive wins over Hiram (63–15) in the quarterfinals and Southeast Whitfield (62–18) in the semifinals, led by five wrestlers who went a perfect 3-0 on the day: Cayden Bagley (106), Nick Weathersbee (113), Adrian Zapata (125), Joshua Palmore (132), and Noah Cates (138). Cass, the two-time defending state champions, also secured its spot at state by rolling past Cedartown (62–15), Dalton (51–25), and Allatoona (50–21) to claim true second. The Colonels were paced by David Jewell (150/157) and Codey Dean (215), who both went 4-0, while Luka Jensen (144), Rowdy Duck (150), and Ethan Harrington (165/175) finished 3-0, with Mason Tompkins (190), Collin Armona (157), and Logan Hicks (165) adding key wins.

Region 8 - Walnut Grove over North Oconee

Walnut Grove and North Oconee each handled business to reach the finals, setting up a championship dual that featured multiple momentum swings. North Oconee advanced with a 47–25 semifinal win over No. 2 seed Eastside, while Walnut Grove cruised past Madison County 65–15.

The final was a true tug-of-war. North Oconee struck first, jumping out to a 9–0 lead, but Walnut Grove answered in emphatic fashion through the middle of the lineup. A decisive run from Graham Dawkins, Matthew Adams, Gavin Dunbar, and Eli Schuler at 150–175 flipped the dual and put Walnut Grove ahead 21–9 after six matches.

Momentum swung again as North Oconee roared back. Nolan Bloom, Shea Verstraete, Joe Ruberte, and Jack Dupree each delivered falls, pushing North Oconee back in front 33–21 with four bouts remaining. But the final shift belonged to Walnut Grove. Noah Welch and Evan Joiner clawed the score back to 33–32, setting the stage for the closing weights. From there, Noah Van Name and Parker Steketee slammed the door, sealing the comeback and delivering the region title to Walnut Grove in a dramatic finish.

Region 1: Camden County over Tift County

Region 2: East Coweta over Carrollton

It was back and forth right to the final whistle, as East Coweta edged Carrollton 39–31 in a dual packed with momentum swings and bonus points on both sides. Neither team was able to fully separate, with the lead changing hands multiple times as the middle and upper weights traded big wins.

Carrollton landed key blows with bonus-point wins from Nehemiah Strzalkowski (tech fall at 144), Connor Stephens (fall at 165), Jonathan Walton (fall at 215), and Jordan Bhonny (fall at 106), keeping them in striking distance throughout. East Coweta countered with its own surge behind major decisions from Ben Thrailkill, Tommy DiNucci, and Deonta McIntosh, along with a pivotal pin from Gregorio Lepoma at 190.

The dual turned late at 132, where Hayes Huddleston delivered a massive 14–12 decision to give East Coweta the lead with just one match remaining. With the pressure squarely on, Matthew Federico closed the door at 138, scoring a clutch fall to seal the win and cap one of the most dramatic finishes of region tournaments.

Region 3: Harrison tops Hillgrove for the title

Region 4: Archer over Grovetown; South Gwinnett downs Grovetown for True 2nd

Region 5: Walton over North Paulding

Region 6: West Forsyth over North Forsyth

Region 7: Brookwood downs North Gwinnett; NG holds off Parkview for true second

Brookwood and North Gwinnett advanced to the finals with semifinal wins over Parkview (45–32) and Berkmar (48–22), setting up a highly anticipated championship dual. The final opened with both teams trading blows, as North Gwinnett grabbed a 16–9 lead after the first five bouts.

Brookwood flipped the dual in the middle of the lineup. A decisive run from Tahir Charles (126), Owen Cash (132), and Kaden Beatty (138) swung the momentum and put Brookwood in front 22–16. North Gwinnett answered when Zachary Boscan edged out a 7–5 decision at 144, trimming the margin to 22–19, but that would be the last real opening. Brookwood closed strong with a technical fall from Jackson Rogers, a sudden-victory win by Felix Garcia, and lightning-quick pins from Calib Cameron and Jace Felipe, pulling away for the championship victory.

The true second dual was a thriller. North Gwinnett jumped out early, but Parkview’s middleweights surged back, flipping the match and taking a 37–27 lead with two bouts remaining. With their season on the line, North Gwinnett delivered when it mattered most. Alex Villarreal’s fall at 190 set the stage, and Ulyssias Wondwossen sealed it with a clutch technical fall at 215, completing a dramatic 38–37 comeback and punching North Gwinnett’s ticket to the state duals tournament next weekend.

Region 8 : Buford tops Mill Creek 51-25

Buford jumped out to a 17–0 lead and never let Mill Creek back into the dual, pulling away for a 51–25 victory to punch its ticket to the state duals. The Wolves set the tone early with back-to-back falls from DJ Clarke (144) and Adam Culican (150), followed by Trey Gregory’s technical fall at 157 to build a commanding cushion before Mill Creek could respond.

Mill Creek finally got on the board at 165 behind Charlie Barrett’s fall, but Buford answered immediately and continued to pile on bonus points. Pins from Callum McCormack, Kanon Nelson, Grey Richardson, and Quinn Jenkins, along with multiple tech falls in the lower weights, kept the margin comfortable the rest of the way. With Mill Creek already securing a win over Mountain View in the bottom semis, no true-second dual was needed, and Buford and Mill Creek both advance to the state duals next weekend.

Villa Rica claimed the 5A-5 title with a hard-fought 40–30 win over Alexander, using two decisive runs to climb back after being in an 18-0 hole. Alexander struck early with falls at 285, 106, and 113, but Villa Rica flipped the momentum at the heart of the lineup.

The first surge came at 120–132, where Tate Sauls, Julian Newman, and Elias Hooks rattled off three straight bonus-point wins, turning an early deficit into a Villa Rica advantage. After Alexander briefly pushed back at 138, Villa Rica delivered the knockout stretch. Bishop Barfield, Cameron Barker, Joshua Cherry, and Kole Ward controlled 144–165, stacking points and creating separation. The swing bout was Joshua Cherry’s dramatic 19–17 decision over Ineko Kumara, a massive result that continued Villa Rica’s momentum before Ward’s lightning-quick fall widened the gap for good.

In the true-second dual, South Paulding rebounded from its semifinal loss to Villa Rica by knocking off Alexander 46–32 to punch its ticket to the state duals. Bonus points made the difference, as falls from Badami, Carr, Scott, Griffin, and Stokes allowed South Paulding to pull away and secure advancement.

Region 6 - Creekview over Sequoyah

Region 7 - Seckinger over Gainesville

Region 8 - Jackson County over Habersham Central

Columbus flexed its depth all day, first dispatching Kendrick 71–12 and then overpowering Jordan 59–21 in the finals to claim the title. Jordan reached the championship by edging Hardaway 45–36, but the final quickly swung once Columbus found its rhythm.

Jordan struck first in the championship dual, jumping out to a 12–0 lead with a forfeit at 120 and a lightning-quick pin from Justin Ford at 126. From there, it was all Columbus. The Blue Devils ripped off 10 straight bonus-point wins, starting with back-to-back falls from Cedric Montgomery and Gabriel Urbina, then piling on forfeits and pins through the middle and upper weights. Falls from Gabriel Jacobus, Ryan Miller, and Lazarius Feggins, along with a tech fall by Noah Oliver, blew the dual wide open as Columbus cruised to the decisive victory.

The true second dual was far tighter. Jordan once again grabbed an early lead, but Kendrick answered in emphatic fashion, rolling off six consecutive bonus-point wins from 144 through 190 to flip the match. With momentum firmly in their corner, Kendrick sealed the deal, where Nicholas Martin’s 13–9 decision at 120 proved to be the difference, sending Kendrick to the state duals tournament as the true second-place finisher.

Region 2 - Pike County over Callaway

Region 3 - Cook blanks Appling County

Cook cruised to the 2A Region 3 title, overwhelming the field and leaving little doubt at the top. In the championship dual, Appling County wrestled just two weights against Cook, with the Hornets capitalizing both times — Harris Holley delivered a pin over Ryder Head at 144, and Rolando Gonzalez followed with a win over Jody Hamilton at 190 to secure the region crown in dominant fashion.

Appling County regrouped in the true second-place dual against Pierce County, turning in one of the more impressive comeback performances of the tournament. Pierce County jumped out to a commanding 28–6 lead, but Appling slowly chipped away. Forfeits at 157 and 165 flipped the momentum, setting the stage for a decisive closing run. Tim Ramos ignited the rally with a fall at 175, and Chamberlain Thompson and Edwin Burt followed with back-to-back major decisions to swing the dual in Appling’s favor and lock up true second.

Region 5 - Lovett tops Salem

Region 6 - Rockmart over Sonoraville

Region 7 - Coahulla Creek tops Ringgold to take the title - Ringgold downs North Murray for true 2nd

Coahulla Creek pulled away from Ringgold with bonus points across the middle and upper weights to earn a 45–27 win and clinch a spot at the state duals. The Colts capitalized on four falls from 190 through heavyweight and added pins at 120, 132, and 150 to build separation, with key wins from Branson Lowery, Jackson Lowery, Chevy Joyce, and Danny Liddy. Ringgold answered with falls at 165, 175, 106, and 126 and solid decisions at 113 and 138, but couldn’t keep pace with Coahulla Creek’s run of bonus points. Ringgold regrouped a round later, bouncing back to defeat North Murray and secure true second place and punch their ticket to the state duals as well.

We start with the Hook ’Em Holiday Clash, where Creekview outlasted Cook, Woodstock, and a deep field to claim the team title. The brackets were loaded and delivered several high-level individual matchups. At the Grappler Duals, Social Circle knocked off Buford, East Jackson, and Troup, and the Redskins are shaping up as the early favorite to make another run at a dual title in 2026—how many would that be? Stay tuned for our preview, where we’ll break it down.

Elsewhere, Columbus, Ola, Houston County, and others tuned up for the dual stretch at the HOCO New Year’s Duals. Rockmart stayed especially busy, capturing the 46th Annual Rockmart Invitational over Troup, Dalton, and more, then following it up with a win at the Spartan Duals at South Paulding over Harrison and a strong field. Jackson County also made a statement, powering through a loaded lineup to win the Mountain View Pre-Region Duals.

There was plenty of girls action statewide as well. You can find results from all the tournaments we tracked over the past 10 days, with Prep Slam highlighted on the SE page. Keep in mind that several teams traveled out of state for competition—those results will need to be followed in the host states.

He is best known for his insistence on the fall as the ultimate goal of amateur wrestling, and for inaugurating an award given at tournaments everywhere, the Gorriaran Trophy for the wrestler scoring the most falls in the least total time.

How we define a “hammer” at an event isn’t limited to dominance alone. It might be the wrestler who delivers in the biggest moments, sparks their team in a pivotal dual, or outperforms their seed when it matters most. A hammer can even take a loss—sometimes the truest measure is battling back, grinding through the bracket, and fighting your way to third after an early setback.

Hook Em Holiday Clash at Lambert

Always one of the premier tournaments between Christmas and New Year’s in Georgia, this year’s event lived up to the hype with a loaded 42-team field. Creekview claimed the team title behind championships from Aaron Campbell, Weston Wilkie, and Costen Wright, but the difference was depth—12 of Creekview’s 14 wrestlers scored points, allowing them to narrowly hold off Cook County by just 15 points. Performances like Pierce Marsh’s bounce-back run to 4th at 144 after a semifinal loss proved critical in such a tight race. Cook County finished second with six placers, while Woodstock took third, followed by Denmark and Glynn Academy to round out the top five.

Picking the hammers here was no easy task—this tournament was loaded from top to bottom. A few performances, though, stood out when the lights were brightest.

Ashton Glasgow (Decatur) set the tone at 126 with a gritty 1–0 decision over returning state champion Jack Proctor in the finals. Glasgow showed he could score bonus with his falls of Colt Mitchell and Max Maya, but it was his ability to slow the match down and win a razor-thin bout against a defending champ that defined his weekend.

Wyatt Womack (Heritage) wrestled at another level all tournament. After tearing through the early rounds with four straight falls, he edged elite contender Cruz Floyd 10–6 in the semifinals before dominating defending state champ Ryland Aston in the finals with a 13–4 major decision. Beating two title-level guys back-to-back cemented Womack as a clear hammer.

In a team race where every single point mattered, Weston Wilkie (Creekview) delivered in a massive way. Wilkie scored 34 team points, narrowly edging fellow champions Aaron Campbell and Costen Wright (each scored 33), and did it with authority—four falls and an injury default before pinning Adam Cox in the finals. His run was a major reason Creekview lifted the team trophy.

Finally, one hammer came from outside the Peach State. Kael Seneca (Fort Myers) claimed the 132-pound title by knocking off returning Georgia state champion Tyler Herring in the finals. Seneca’s path wasn’t easy—he survived a tight 5–1 tiebreaker against Grant Dait in the semifinals before finishing the job, making his title one of the most impressive wins of the event.

Georgia Grappler Duals at Social Circle

Buford, Social Circle, Troup, and East Jackson squared off in a stout quad that delivered from start to finish. Buford rolled through pool play, knocking off Troup 68–8 and East Jackson 55–15 to earn a finals matchup with Social Circle. Social Circle was just as dominant, dispatching East Jackson 65–15 and Troup 65–12. Troup closed the day by beating East Jackson 61–18 to claim third place.

The finals between Buford and Social Circle were everything a marquee dual should be. Ariah Mills set the tone early for Buford with a statement 21–5 tech fall over Gable Hargrove at 120. Social Circle answered immediately, getting back-to-back falls from Lauden Ethridge and Cohen Hargrove to grab a 12–5 lead. Buford responded with momentum of its own—Clarke picked up a forfeit and Quinn Jenkins followed with a tech fall to swing the score back in Buford’s favor, 16–12 after five matches.

Social Circle clawed right back. James Sievers earned a tough 4–1 decision over Jaiden Oliver to cut the deficit to 16–15, and freshman Walker Woodard delivered a massive moment with a 4–3 tiebreaker win that pushed Social Circle ahead 18–16 at the halfway point.

From there, the dual stayed razor tight. Dane Kracht and Callum McCormack traded tech falls, keeping the margin slim, before Daniel Passmore came through with a huge 4–2 decision over Mason Degon to extend Social Circle’s lead to 26–21 with four bouts remaining. With Buford holding a forfeit at 106, Social Circle knew it had built an important cushion. Jack Gea’s gritty 5–4 decision over Xzavion Colclough pushed the scoreboard to 26–24, but the math still favored Social Circle.

Buford wasn’t done. Grey Richardson delivered a clutch fall at heavyweight to pull Buford within two points heading into the final bout. With everything on the line, Corbin Stephens sealed the dual in emphatic fashion, pinning Seth Ledford to put an exclamation point on a 37–29 Social Circle victory.

HOCO New Year’s Duals

Houston County, McIntosh, Ola, and Columbus each won their pool to advance to the championship bracket. Tift County captured the consolation bracket, knocking off Mary Persons and Pierce County along the way. In the championship bracket, Ola rolled through the field—defeating Columbus 49–26 before closing the event with a 59–24 win over McIntosh in the finals.

Beyond that bout, Dossett was dominant all weekend—racking up three quick falls at 215 with pins over Connor Collum (Upson Lee), Abdul Day (Tift County), and Kyle Ball (Greenbrier).

Kellan Lukas (Tift County) was the engine behind Tift County’s strong showing, as their only loss came to Ola in pool play. Lukas was relentless, stacking bonus points with two tech falls and three pins, including techs over Landon Taylor (Pierce County) and Cade Johnson (McIntosh), and falls over Ben Arroyo (Ola), Hyrum Fossum (Mary Persons), and Wesley Lewis (Greenbrier). At 113, Eli Bowman (Rockmart) was in control all tournament, finishing with a composed 6–3 decision over Javen Russo (Troup) in the title bout. Bowman mixed big offense with discipline, teching one opponent, pinning another, then closing the door in the finals over the talented freshman.

And at 165, Holden McCullough (Northwest Whitfield) earned hammer honors by surviving the toughest test of the round—edging Kole Smith (East Jackson) 9–7 in a high-level championship match. After a tech and a decisive semifinal win, McCullough proved he could win late in a close finals showdown, sealing his spot among the event’s standout performers.

Elbert County rolled through the Gold Pool, finishing 4–0 and locking up the pool title with a key 47–34 win over Walnut Grove. Walnut Grove settled for second, while Cambridge finished third in the pool.

In the championship side, Jackson County was dominant all day. After going 4–0 in pool play highlighted by a 42–26 win over Seckinger, Jackson County left no doubt in the finals—blowing past Elbert County 64–16 to claim the team title. Rockmart left no doubt this weekend, rolling to a 6–0 team title capped by a convincing 46–25 win over Harrison in the finals. Along the way, Rockmart overwhelmed the field with dominant duals over South Paulding (69–11), East Coweta (65–13), Jonesboro (75–6), Duluth (84–0), and Northgate (75–5), showing both firepower and depth across the lineup. Harrison battled through to finish second, while East Coweta claimed third and South Paulding rounded out the top four, but the weekend belonged to Rockmart from start to finish.

The finals were equally convincing, as he pinned Coen Weaver to cap off a statement title run highlighted by two very solid wins over elite competition.

Ahmed Daoud (Rome)

Nolan Johnson (Midland Valley)
Johnson controlled his bracket with a relentless pace, piling up three consecutive tech falls before finishing with a pin in the finals. His ability to score in bunches separated him from the field, as he overwhelmed Riggs and Morgan before closing the tournament decisively against Pettyjohn.

Varsity Coweta Cup at East Coweta

East Coweta opened the night with a hard-fought 43–36 win over Northgate, needing late heroics to close it out. With the dual still in doubt, 113 Jayden Ramone and 120 Eli Sudduth delivered back-to-back falls to seal the victory. Newnan and Northgate followed, and Newnan controlled the action from start to finish in a 54–24 win powered by big bonus-point performances from Noah Williams, Jackson Waters, and Jaden Dutton.

That set up a true barnburner for the final: East Coweta vs. Newnan. East Coweta struck first, piling up bonus points with wins from Ben Thrailkill, Tommy DiNucci, Deonta McIntosh, and Gregorio Lepoma to build a 25–6 lead after six matches. But Newnan wasn’t done—they turned to their heavy hitters. Williams and Waters posted back-to-back falls, and then Jaden Dutton earned a massive 5–3 decision over Nick Carroll at 285. A forfeit at 106 pushed Newnan into the lead, 27–25, with four bouts left.

Once again, Ramone and Sudduth delivered when East Coweta needed them most. Ramone notched another fall, Sudduth added a 15–4 major, and suddenly East Coweta was back in front, 35–27. Newnan’s Michahya Parks kept his team alive with a dominant 10–0 major to cut it to 35–31 heading into the final match. But Hayes Huddleston did exactly what East Coweta needed—he limited the damage, dropping an 11–6 decision to Kayson Booze, but preventing the bonus points Newnan needed.

East Coweta held on, surviving the thriller 35–34 to close out an electric night of dual-meet action.

The spotlight at home was the Dalton Carpet Classic, where out-of-state powers Thompson (Alabama) and McCallie (Tennessee) put on a show in one of the weekend’s marquee team battles. Across the state, tournaments featured tight team races, breakout individual performances, and plenty of bonus-point wrestling that swung standings late. From championship runs to clutch consolation-side efforts and our “hammer” performances at each event, it was a weekend that showcased just how deep and competitive Georgia wrestling is right now.

After opening with a forfeit, she pinned her next three opponents in a combined 40 seconds—before finishing the job with a finals fall over Andrea De Leon Pozuelos. A dominant 4–0 day and a statement performance from start to finish.

Bianca Pennyman (McEachern) - delivered exactly what a team needs from a senior leader: points when they matter most. The #2 seed pinned her way into the finals, stopping both Stephenson’s Marshall and Northview’s Ikpa in dominant fashion. In the championship match, she outlasted top-seeded Payten Jefferson in a gritty 4–3 decision—one of the clutch wins that ultimately kept McEachern ahead as Sequoyah made its late push.

Itel Salcido (Gainesville) came in as the #6 seed and saved her best for last. After falling behind early in the finals, Salcido flipped the script and pinned top seed Essence Stephens, capping a dominant run that included three falls and helped power Gainesville to the team title.

Rebeca Silva (Pope) showed grit on the backside. After a tough semifinal loss, Silva rebounded with two huge pins to secure 3rd place, and those critical points were the difference as Pope held off Rockmart for runner-up honors.

19th Annual Yellow Jacket Duals at Jeff Davis

With 28 teams split across four pools, the event delivered nonstop action and an exhausting two days of wrestling from start to finish.

Social Circle was untouchable in Pool A, steamrolling the field with lopsided wins over Irwin County (84-0), Dublin/Statesboro (82-0), Brantley County (72-6), Benedictine (75-0), and Vidalia (77-3). Brantley County finished second in the pool, with Benedictine taking third.
In Pool B, Toombs County emerged on top after methodical wins over Harlem, Berrien County, Oglethorpe County, Montgomery County, Wayne County, and Swainsboro. Oglethorpe County placed second, while Wayne County claimed third.
Pool C belonged to Bradley Central (TN), which powered past Effingham County, Screven County, Bryan County, Dodge County, West Laurens, and Emanuel County Institute. Effingham County finished second, followed by West Laurens in third.
In Pool D, Ware County handled business against Lamar County, East Laurens, Bacon County, Jeff Davis, and Lexington (SC) to claim the pool crown, with Lexington second and East Laurens third.

In the Gold Bracket, Toombs County edged Effingham County before surviving a thriller against Ware County, winning 42-41 to reach the finals (this match had to be wild … a dual decided by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty according to track - sources told me that a team penalty was assessed after the dual was finished for excessive celebration - which gave the dual win to Toombs instead of Ware). Social Circle, meanwhile, dispatched Lexington and Bradley Central to earn their spot in the championship dual. In the finals, Social Circle left no doubt, rolling to a 61-8 victory over Toombs County and proving once again why they are the defending Georgia 1A state champions. Bradley Central downed Ware County 49-28 to take 3rd.
