High School Weekend Wrap Up
Weekend of Nov 21-22
Tons of action across the Dirty South this weekend — and the season is officially heating up. Dive into the results below and check out my view of all the action. With a few big events still on deck for tomorrow and Wednesday, we’ll be tracking it all and rolling those results into next weekend’s wrap-up.
Enjoy the chaos, enjoy the competition — and have a great Thanksgiving holiday.
NOTES:
Top Scorers: Those wrestlers that accumulated the most team points in the event.
Gorriaran Award: Named for Manuel Gorriaran.
He is best known for his insistence on the fall as the ultimate goal of amateur wrestling, and for inaugurating an award given at tournaments everywhere, the Gorriaran Trophy for the wrestler scoring the most falls in the least total time.
How we define a “hammer” at an event isn’t limited to dominance alone. It might be the wrestler who delivers in the biggest moments, sparks their team in a pivotal dual, or outperforms their seed when it matters most. A hammer can even take a loss—sometimes the truest measure is battling back, grinding through the bracket, and fighting your way to third after an early setback.
Gulf Coast Clash (Boys) at Mobile Convention Center
It appears the Gulf Coast Clash combined both the Elite and Varsity divisions into a single set of team standings, making the results impossible to separate cleanly. Because of that, team scores are not being reported for this event.

Eli Carter (Southside Gadsden) – Battled back with multiple bonus-point wins, including two falls and a tech
Eli Vincent (Catholic) – Strong consolation run with two techs and a consi semifinal decision to place fourth
126 - Nate Manos (Athens Christian) put together a steady, disciplined march to the top of the 126 Elite bracket. After opening with a pair of falls and adding another in the quarterfinals, Manos edged Catholic’s Caleb Kirk in a tight 1–0 semifinal battle (they should’ve been on opposite sides of the bracket … Manos a South Carolina State Champ and a Knockout Champ and Kirk a very tough Louisiana Runner-up). In the finals he shifted gears, controlling the action throughout a 10–2 major decision over Desmond Brown to finish a spotless 5–0 championship run.
Nate Manos (Athens Christian) – Major decision in finals; three falls on the front side
Desmond Brown (Mount de Sales Academy) – Tech fall + major; strong run to the finals
Caleb Kirk (Catholic) – Dominated the backside of the bracket
Griffin Gardner (Oak Mountain) – Sudden-victory win in consos to secure fourth before injury default - big win over Landen Modica 4-3 TB1 in the quarters.

Jammer Perry (Thompson) – Strong run into the semis and bounced back to finish fourth
150 - The seeding at 150 raised plenty of eyebrows—and understandably so—but once the wrestling started, the bracket sorted itself out (unfortunately for the 3 seed - Noah Davis of Brookwood - he got Durham in the opening round). One note … it looks as if some schools did not enter any criteria for their wrestlers - which causes problems for the bracket. Dominick Durham (Archbishop Rummel) proved he was the true class of the weight, regardless of where anyone slotted him. Durham cruised through the field with bonus in every match except the final, where he controlled Oak Mountain’s Quinn Ivey 6-3 to take the title.
Dominick Durham (Archbishop Rummel) – Bonus through the quarters and semis, then a composed 6-3 decision for the championship
Quinn Ivey (Oak Mountain) – Dominant on his half of the bracket with multiple major decisions and a tech fall

Turner Hutson (Thompson) – Strong early wins, reached the semis, and secured fourth after a solid tournament run
157 - Future Maryland Terrapin Bradley Williams (Spain Park) looked every bit like the best wrestler in the building, tearing through a deep and physical bracket without ever being threatened. Williams opened with a pair of lightning-quick falls, added two more pins in the quarters and semis, and capped the run with a finals fall over Bob Jones standout Kaden Clark, ending it at 3:01. He dominated every position, scored at will, and never let a match reach the third period—a statement performance that showed just how high his ceiling is.

Kaden Clark (Bob Jones) – Strong showing with a tech, major, and solid semifinal win over a tough Bill Bradford 5-0
Christopher Stricker (Jesuit) – Battled through the consis with multiple bonus wins before a medical-forfeit podium finish
Bill Bradford (Mountain Brook) – A steady, well-built run highlighted by pins in both the quarters and round of 16
165 - Catholic’s Kristian Scott tore through the bracket with absolute authority, earning three first-period pins and a semifinal tech fall before dominating the final—stopping Thompson’s Brandon Bethea in just 1:14. Scott never allowed more than a few seconds of resistance in any match, looking levels above the field.

Brandon Bethea (Thompson) – Reached the finals with steady offense and a strong semifinal win over David Gomez of Lanier.
Clayton Williams (Daphne) – Fought back for third with a major decision in the consi semis and a solid win in the placement match.
David Gomez (Lanier) – Earned a semifinal berth and secured fourth with multiple tough decision victories.
175 - Athens Christian’s Jackson Moffitt put together a sharp, methodical run to the finals—opening with a bye, then stacking a fall over Luke Pavlick and a dominant 14-1 major over Tyler Cooper in the semifinals. In the championship match, after a night filled with blowouts across other weights, 175 delivered real drama. Moffitt stayed composed in a tactical battle with Thompson’s Drew Adams, ultimately securing the decisive second-period takedown to win a tight 4–3 and remain unbeaten.
Jackson Moffitt (Athens Christian) – Strong run to the finals and closed it out with a perfectly timed takedown in a 4–3 thriller.
Drew Adams (Thompson) – Gritty throughout the bracket, controlling his semifinal and pushing Moffitt to the final whistle.
Trip Cole (Hewitt-Trussville) – Fought his way back with several tough wins, including a strong decision in the consi final.
Tyler “Jax” Cooper (Brookwood) – Earned quality victories to reach the semis and added another solid decision in the wrestlebacks.
190 - Athens Christian’s Will Childs tore through the bracket with absolute authority, opening with a tech fall, then pinning his next two opponents—including a semifinal fall over Thompson’s Cayden Ervin. By the time he reached the finals, Childs had barely spent any time on the mat, and he closed the show the same way he started it: with another dominant pin, downing Enterprise’s Gavin Whiteside in 1:45.
Will Childs (Athens Christian) – Rolled to the title with four straight pins/techs and a statement finish in the finals.
Gavin Whiteside (Enterprise) – Smart, steady wrestling carried him to the championship bout and a strong runner-up performance.
Cayden Ervin (Thompson) – Battled back after a semifinal loss, securing two falls to lock up third.
Quinn Anderson (Jesuit) – Collected multiple quality wins and reached the semis before finishing fourth in a deep bracket.
215 - Gulf Shores hammer Landon Everett put together a clean and composed run to the title, opening with a first-period fall, adding another pin in the quarters, then downing Jay’lynn Everett in the semifinals. In the championship, Everett handled McAdory standout Jourdan Godwin in a high-scoring, physical battle, pulling away late for a 13–8 decision to finish off a perfect 4–0 weekend.
Landon Everett (Gulf Shores) – Two pins and a gritty finals decision highlighted a complete, confident title run.
Jourdan Godwin (McAdory) – Powered into the finals with bonus-point wins and pushed Everett in one of the event’s higher-paced big-man bouts.
Wyatt Carroll (Thompson) – Stormed back through the consolations with three straight bonus wins, including a 56-second fall for third.
Jordan Sherrod (Vancleave) – Fought through the backside with multiple pins and majors to secure a strong fourth-place finish.
285 - McAdory big man Cornelius Chaverst tore through the bracket with power and pace, opening his run with a first-period fall and adding an 8–0 major in the quarters. He stayed hot in the semis with another pin before closing the night with a controlled, physical 7–1 decision over Oak Mountain’s Evan Smith to claim the heavyweight title.
Cornelius Chaverst (McAdory) – Bonus-point dominance all weekend and a commanding finals performance capped off a flawless championship run.
Evan Smith (Oak Mountain) – Steady, disciplined path to the finals with two falls before running into the buzzsaw that was Chaverst.
Wesley Sandefur (Fairhope) – Battled back strong with a pair of pins, including a clutch fall in the 3rd-place match.
Matthew Humphrey (Hoover) – Earned multiple bonus-point wins and secured fourth after a solid showing on both sides of the bracket.
Hammers: In a building full of hammers, we chose two of the very best. It would’ve been easy to hand the honor to Manos, Childs, Scott, Atkinson, or several others — all absolutely deserving. But this weekend, Bradley Williams and Dominick Durham stood just a notch above an already loaded field.
Williams, the top scorer in the Elite field, was nothing short of ruthless. A true scoring machine, he pinned every opponent he faced, spending barely seven minutes on the mat the entire tournament. Even more impressive — he was leading a very good Kaden Clark 17-2 before securing the fall in the second period. Total domination from whistle to whistle (tallying 53 points in the tournament before securing his falls).
On the other side of the bracket chaos, Durham didn’t seem remotely bothered by being unseeded. Instead, he used it as fuel. He opened his tournament by teching the #3 seed 19-1, then later knocked off the #2 seed 9-7, and ultimately capped his run with a gritty win over top-seeded Quinn Ivey in the finals. Tough road, flawless execution.

Hammers:
Addysin Mollendor was technically the lowest-seeded wrestler to win a title, but anyone who watched her knows she never should’ve been sitting at a No. 7 seed. She’s a hammer—no question—but we focused on two others who delivered equally eye-opening performances.
Abbigail Meyer (St. John Paul II) – Just an 8th grader, Meyer was seeded No. 5 and tore through the bracket like a seasoned veteran. She opened with two falls, then pinned the No. 4 seed, followed by a lightning-quick 24-second pin over the top seed, Green. In the finals, she finished the job with another dominant fall over the No. 2 seed in barely a minute. BOOM!
Joise Insalaco (Pierce County) – Also at 126, Insalaco’s run was gritty, relentless, and all heart. After an opening-round fall, she took an L in Round 2—but then went on an absolute tear. She reeled off five straight consolation falls, including a tech fall revenge win over Alex Potter, before pinning Gloria Petty to reach the 3rd-place match. She ultimately finished 4th after falling to Alaija Green, but her seven-match war path was one of the tournament’s toughest—and most impressive—performances.
Georgia

Kitchens showed poise, rebounding from a loss to a teammate and ripping through the consolation bracket to finish 3rd, collecting three pins along the way. Bearden, meanwhile, was dominant wire-to-wire, piling up bonus points in every round and capping his 4–0 day with a first-period fall in the finals.

Hammers: Three wrestlers entered the Ringgold Invitational unseeded (at least not in the top 4) and still battled their way to the top of the podium, as a result they are our hammers.
Oliver Green (Signal Mountain, 120) went 3–0 and piled up 21.0 team points, turning in a breakout performance that included a major in the quarters, a gritty semifinal win, and a fall in the finals over LaFayette’s Aaden McGuire.
Ian McCallie (Signal Mountain, 126) delivered one of the tournament’s signature runs, scoring 24.5 team points and sealing his title with a statement victory over Georgia state champion Hayes Kennedy. McCallie’s march included a major, a tech fall, and a composed finals win over a very tough Kennedy.
Josian Hernandez (Dalton, 215), produced the most dominant run in the Ringgold gym—scoring a tournament-best 27.5 team points while pinning or teching every opponent. Hernandez’s run was especially impressive as he pinned the #3 seed in the quarterfinals, the #2 seed in the semifinals, and the #1 seed in the championship match.
2025 Ringgold Girls Invitational
North Cobb edged out a deep LaFayette squad to win the Ringgold Girls Invitational, powered by three individual champions and six total podium finishers, giving them just enough firepower to hold onto the top spot with 104.5 points. LaFayette wasn’t far behind, matching North Cobb with six placers of their own and adding a champion to finish a close second at 103. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe showcased impressive depth with seven podium finishers and a champion to secure third place, while Rockmart made the most of a smaller lineup by crowning three champions among their four total placers—one of the most efficient performances of the event. Southeast Whitfield rounded out the top five with six placers and a champion, showing strong balance across multiple weights.

Hammers: Jordan Kimbell of Harrison and Ninel Chacon of Northwest Whitfield stood out as our Hammers of the Event, each delivering impressive — but very different — paths to the podium. Kimbell was unstoppable at 120, pinning all four opponents with ruthless efficiency, recording falls in 1:48, :52, :49, and again in the finals. Chacon, meanwhile, showed the grit and toughness that define “hammer”. After winning her prelim by fall, she drew eventual champion Olivia D’Arienzo in the quarterfinals and battled to a high-scoring 14–10 loss, the closest anyone came to beating the D’Arienzo all day. From there, Chacon tore through the consolation bracket, stacking up three straight pins to charge back for third place.
Battle at the Castle at Central Gwinnett (Boys)
Locust Grove topped the Battle at the Castle by putting together a deep and balanced performance, scoring 203 points to outdistance a competitive field in an event where many programs used the opportunity to get valuable mat time and enter multiple wrestlers per weight. Decatur secured runner-up honors with 155 points, followed closely by Parkview, whose strong lineup produced 149 points for third. Stockbridge showcased solid depth across the board to finish fourth with 132.5, while Dacula rounded out the top five at 83.5 points, edging out a crowded middle tier. Overall, it was a productive early-season event with plenty of wrestlers gaining meaningful reps.

Hammer: Justice White (Locust Grove), Seer Stokes (Stockbridge), and Emmanuel Tavira Lopez (Dacula) emerged as our hammers of the Battle at the Castle, each delivering a performance that was noteworthy. White put together a perfect 4–0 championship run for 25 team points, stacking bonus early with a fall and a major before grinding out a dramatic 8–7 sudden-victory win in the finals. Stokes showed toughness and firepower at 138, pinning his quarterfinal opponent, pushing eventual champ Ronald Horn in a wild 15–13 semifinal, then storming through the consolations with a tech fall and a decisive win for third to cap a 15.5-point day. Tavira Lopez took a different but equally gritty route, bouncing back from a razor-thin 6–5 quarterfinal loss to reel off four straight wins, including a major, two falls, and a composed 9–3 victory for third, totaling 17 team points.
Battle at the Castle at Central Gwinnett (Girls)
Shiloh dominated the Girls Battle at the Castle, using both firepower and sheer roster size (yes - you only get one scorer per weight, but Shiloh brought 17 wrestlers at nearly every weight) to pile up 161 points behind three individual champions and a wave of depth that will pay dividends as the season progresses. South Gwinnett, despite bringing only eight wrestlers, turned in one of the most efficient performances of the event, converting their lineup into 110 points and a strong runner-up finish. Hiram’s balanced group delivered 93 points to take third, while Alexander wasn’t far behind with 90 points behind several high placers and two champs of their own. Hammers: Maddison Jones of Shiloh and Lilly Munoz of Alexander earn our Hammer honors for the Girls Battle at the Castle after two standout, momentum-shifting performances. Munoz delivered a dramatic finish in the 145-lb final, storming back from a 5–0 deficit in the third period to stun Guilana Wright with a 7–5 comeback victory for the title. Jones took a different—but equally gritty—path at 115. After falling in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Kayleigh Grant, she caught fire in the consolation bracket, ripping off four straight first-period pins to secure third place in emphatic fashion. Two wrestlers, two very different routes, but both showed the toughness, resilience, and finishing power worthy of Hammer recognition.
Sequoyah Invitational
Columbus dominated the field, putting on a clinic with depth, balance, and high-end firepower on the way to a massive 246.5 points—far outpacing the rest of the pack. They particularly dominated bonus point land - accruing 10 more falls or technical falls than the next closest team. Campbell claimed runner-up honors at 162, led by several finalists and steady scoring through the middle weights, while Woodstock wasn’t far behind with 147.5 and a strong showing from its upper-weight contenders. River Ridge (118.5) and North Hall (109.0) rounded out the top five, each producing several podium finishers but unable to match the overwhelming depth of the champions.

215 – Noah Oliver, Columbus
285 – Lazarius Feggins, Columbus
Hammer(s): Braden Harper of Woodstock delivered one of the tournament’s signature performances, entering the 144 bracket unseeded and storming his way to the title with a tech fall and three straight pins — including a dominant finals fall over Pope’s Garret Michels. Equally impressive was River Ridge’s Jennings Banks, who bounced back from a quarterfinal loss and went on an absolute scoring tear, piling up 68 total points on his march to third. Banks logged four pins, a tech fall, and a major decision in the consolation rounds, avenging his earlier loss to Lambert’s Isaac Dodd by get the fall in the rematch in just 42 seconds in the bronze match.
Girls Sequoyah Invitational
Campbell dominated an outstanding field with overwhelming depth, piling up podium finishers across nearly every weight to cruise to the team title despite having just one individual champion. Their balance, volume, and consistency made them nearly impossible to match. Pope put together a strong showing of its own, sending four wrestlers to the finals and coming away with a champion, but the Greyhounds simply couldn’t keep pace with Campbell’s nonstop point production throughout the lineup. McEachern, Cherokee, and River Ridge rounded out a competitive top five, each showcasing several high-end performers, but this event belonged to Campbell—a complete team effort that highlighted why they’re among the deepest squads in the state.

Vehar was outstanding at 115, rolling to a pair of first-period pins before capping her day with a commanding 21–7 major victory over McEachern standout Reagan Fizer in the finals. Dover, a freshman with veteran-level poise, was equally impressive at 125, controlling every position on her way to the title. Her semifinal pin of Pope’s Peyton Mordarski and her finals fall over Campbell’s Kayla Pham were exclamation points on a performance that showed she’s one to watch.
Granite City Scramble at Elbert County
Mountain View edged out Commerce in a tight team race, using depth across the lineup to claim the top spot with 170 points, just ahead of Commerce’s strong 167.5-point showing. West Laurens wasn’t far behind either, piling up 151 points behind one of the larger lineups in the field. Grovetown delivered a well-balanced performance to take fourth with 147, while Elbert County rounded out the top five with 137 thanks to several high-end placers. Cedar Shoals closed out the standings with 47 points from a smaller group that still found its way onto the podium.

190 – Elijah Sellers, Grovetown
215 – Bryant Nagel, Mountain View
285 – Xavier DeRamus, Grovetown
Hammer: Hogan Sims of Commerce was unstoppable, storming through the tournament with a perfect 5–0 record — and every single win coming by pin or technical fall. Sims had falls of Mountain View’s Kristyian Georgiev and Cedar Shoals’ Wesley Whitehead. His other three matches were pure domination: 15–0 tech falls against Grovetown’s Coby Eckert, Elbert County’s Jesus Mills, and West Laurens standout Brody Johnson. Five matches, five bonus-point wins.
NOTE: The combined 106/113 bracket was interesting with J Giles of West Laurens pinning Colt Redmon of Commerce, Redmon downing Elbert County’s Lane Fleming, and Fleming downing Giles 15-9.
King of the Mountain 2025 at Towns County
White County claimed the King of the Mountain team title behind three individual champions and a wave of podium finishers that scored across nearly every weight, giving them the consistent depth needed to outpace the field. The battle for second was a dead heat, with Gordon Central and Indian Land (SC) tying at 144.5 points — and notably GC, Indian Land, and East Hamilton accrued the most bonus points in the tournament thanks to a barrage of falls and techs from all three squads. East Hamilton (TN) wasn’t far behind, finishing fourth with 135.5 points and Robbinsville (NC), long known as one of the toughest small-school programs in the SE, rounded out the top five with 120.5 points and their usual gritty, top-end talent.

Hammer(s): Weston Adams (Murphy, NC), Konner Ray (Prattville Christian Academy, AL), and Austin Saffer (Indian Land, SC) all turned in standout performances at King of the Mountain. Adams was nothing short of dominant at 106, pinning his way through the bracket with falls in 31 seconds, 18 seconds, and 1:26 in the final. At 126, Ray became one of the tournament’s best stories—an unseeded freshman who ripped off back-to-back pins to reach the finals before falling to veteran Athens Parker. Saffer, meanwhile, was an absolute scoring machine; despite a semifinal loss to eventual champ Josh Lane, he piled up over 50 match points across five bouts, finishing with two tech falls and two pins on his way to a strong third-place finish.
Knight Tough Tournament
South Effingham dominated the Knight Tough tournament, piling up a massive 291.5 points behind unmatched depth and scoring at nearly every weight. Veterans secured second with 192 points, powered by a strong group of finalists and lower to middle weight production, while Effingham County wasn’t far behind in third with 166.5 and a solid mix of placers. Hart County claimed fourth with 111 points, edging out Lakeside-Evans, who finished fifth at 108.5. A deep field, but South Effingham separated themselves early and never looked back.

Woolstenhulme entered the 150 bracket unseeded and ripped off three straight first-period pins before sealing the title with a 7-1 decision over Maddox Vasquez. Hardeman was even more dominant at 113, piling up 64 match points with three tech falls and two pins, overwhelming every opponent he faced on his march to the title.
Knight Tough Girls Tournament
The team race at Evans was outstanding, with Evans edging out Richmond Hill thanks to superior bonus production. Both programs crowned two individual champions, but Evans’ ability to rack up big points proved decisive. With five finalists and a tournament-best 27 pins or tech falls, Evans created separation that Richmond Hill couldn’t quite match despite posting 22 bonus-point wins of their own. Lakeside (Evans), Grovetown, Harlem, and Veterans rounded out a deep and competitive top five behind the two frontrunners.
Top Scorers:
Brooklynn Hughes — South Effingham — 33.5 pts
Kaylee Newman — Harlem — 33.0 pts

Hammers: Payton Holmes of Veterans and Shaniyah McDaniel of Grovetown delivered two of the most dominant runs of the entire tournament. McDaniel was an absolute scoring machine at 130, piling up 81 total points across five matches with a blend of power and pace—two first-period pins followed by three explosive tech falls in the quarters, semis, and finals. Holmes was every bit as devastating at 110, pinning all five of her opponents and needing less than a period in most of them. Her semifinal fall in just 21 seconds and her championship pin over Richmond Hill’s Lilah Forster capped an outstanding day.
Raider Brawl
The team race couldn’t have been tighter, and it ultimately came down to contrasting paths to success. Rutland captured the title by leaning on pure depth—nine top-four finishers despite not crowning a single individual champion. Every placement point mattered, and the cumulative effect pushed them just over the top. Howard, meanwhile, took the opposite route, placing only five wrestlers—but all five reached the finals, with each earning either first or second. Their top-end firepower nearly stole the trophy, but Rutland’s lineup-wide consistency proved to be the difference in an exceptionally close finish. Baldwin, Luella, and Northeast Magnet round out the top 5.

190 — Jakore Brown, Northside
215 — Vontreaz Cowen, Baldwin
285 — Toriano Gibson, Baldwin
Hammers: Baldwin’s Vontreaz Cowen and Luella’s Eric Matthew earn our hammer honors, with Cowen steamrolling the 215 field and Matthew battling his way to a gritty fourth-place finish. Cowen pinned his first three opponents in 1:19, 0:18, and 4:29 before sealing the title with a dominant 16–8 major decision in the finals—one of the most complete performances of the event. Matthew, meanwhile, took the hard road at 285: after an opening-round win and a tough loss to eventual champ Toriano Gibson, he fought back with a major decision, another strong decision, and a forfeit win to reach the third-place match. Even in defeat there, his resilience to fight back through the bracket was on full display.
Red Raider Rumble at Bacon County

285: Ricardo Riano — Appling County
Hammers: Jeff Davis’ Alan Ortega and Bacon County’s Demetrius Iverson delivered two impressive performances, each powering through undefeated runs but in dramatically different ways. Ortega’s day began with one of the wildest matches of the event—a 13-12 thriller over Brantley County’s Payton Perez where he had to gut out the third period to survive. From there, he locked in and dominated, reeling off four straight pins to close out a 5–0 championship run at 175. Iverson was equally formidable at 190, pinning his way into the finals before meeting teammate Kaid Horton in an all-Bacon County title bout. She opened her run with a 13-second fall, then followed it with pins over opponents from East Jackson and Etowah before shifting into tech-fall mode—rolling up big scores against East Coweta’s Isabella Waddell and Collins Hill’s Kimberly Garcia Galvan. Across five matches, Tercero piled on bonus points and never allowed a bout to reach the third period.
Alabama
Battle in the Burg (Boys) at Childersburg
Wetumpka edged out Bartlett in a razor-thin team race, winning by just 2.5 points thanks to crucial top-end performances. Both programs put nine wrestlers on the podium, but Wetumpka’s two individual champions—Brady Adams and Zakyrion Matthews—proved to be the difference-makers. Their title runs provided the bonus-point surge Wetumpka needed to stay in front of a relentless Bartlett squad. Gardendale, Chelsea, and Stanhope Elmore rounded out the top five, but this one came down to every match, every point, and Wetumpka’s champs delivering when it mattered most.
Top Scorers:
Tanner Burroughs, Chelsea – 30.0
Isaac Jones, Gardendale – 29.5
Hunter Evans, Northridge – 29.5
Meadow Jones, Vestavia Hills – 29.0
Karson Poe, Moody – 28.5

126 – Aiden Ballance, Saint Clair County
132 – Karson Poe, Moody HS

175 – Jones Meadow, Vestavia Hills
190 – Hunter Evans, Northridge High
215 – Christopher Weaver, Alabama School for the Blind
285 – Martin Thomas, Gardendale High
Hammers: Wetumpka’s two champs — Blake Adams and Zakyrion Matthews — earned the hammer honors because their finals wins literally secured the team title. Entering the last round, Bartlett was close enough that a single Wetumpka loss would have flipped the standings, but both Adams and Matthews delivered under pressure. Adams dominated his bracket with three pins, including a first-period fall in the finals. Matthews had a tougher road, grinding out a one-point win early before ripping through the quarters and semis with back-to-back pins, then sealing the championship — and effectively the team race — with a composed 8-4 decision. Their combined output swung the final tally and made Wetumpka’s narrow victory possible. Who knew that 8-7 match early in the day would play such an important role later.

Gardendale, Moody, and Russell County rounded out the top five, each putting together solid performances, but Dadeville’s balanced scoring and Stanhope’s high-end firepower set them apart at the top of the standings.
