Lots of girls registered for this year’s NHSCA tournament with many from the SE in the tournament and also in the pre-seeds. It is a little surprising the number of girls coming from Florida - at 58 it is significantly more than most other states. Pennsylvania comes in #2 with 41 followed by North Carolina at 38. Georgia, California, and Virginia will all bring 30+ each as well. A full breakdown is below:
As mentioned above - the SE has many hammers that are pre-seeded at their weight, and three that are #1: Mariana Bowen is your top seed at 132 after claiming another Tennessee title this past year. She headlines a weight class that is deep with SE talent (8 of the 10 pre-seeds are all from the SE). The 138 lb. bracket includes Florida State Champ Emma Hoppe, a quartet of Alabama hammers in Elizabeth Rosentiel, Kimber Alford, Aenaya Vines, and Annabella Harris as well as Floridians Lahela Turnquist and Shamari Smith. Levendusky is the top seed at 145 - just ahead of North Carolina’s Faith Bane and Niya Turner of Alabama is the top seed at 235 just ahead of Mississippi’s Chykiya Miller. For a full list of those from the SE that are pre-seeded (look below).
The table below shows pre-seeds by state:
I’m a believer that pre-seed information shouldn’t reside behind a paywall, but they do for NHSCA’s … behind the paywall on MatScouts (Rokfin) … as a result we will not list them below, but will mention those wrestlers from the SE. If you’d like to see the full list of those pre-seeded - check out MatScouts on Rokfin.

I don’t usually comment on pre-seeds for a two reasons … 1) they aren’t the seeds so we don’t know how things will change once everyone weighs-in, etc. and 2) seeding is hard especially where comparing wrestlers from different parts of the country. Seeding is done by criteria (but a state champ in one state is very different than a state champ in another) so at this level of a tournament you really need other measures to help decide the seeds. That said - the girls pre-seeds are not very good. There are wrestlers that have won state titles that are not listed, wrestlers that won multiple state titles pre-seeded below others that have not won a title or placed nationally, etc. Hopefully this gets worked out before the tournament because I believe seeding is important. I don’t think it is crucial to get everyone in the exact right spot … there isn’t much of a difference between #2 and #3, but in a 32-woman bracket - you shouldn’t have the two best wrestling one another in the opening round. That would be a shame.
Awesome as always.. We are here and ready!!
