In-depth coverage of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia
Where to Begin?
First - Thank you for subscribing to SEWrestle on Substack. Right now, this platform is simply a way for me to share my thoughts on high school and college wrestling across the Southeast.
Will there be “premium” or paywalled posts in the future? Honestly … I don’t know. I’m not there yet, but want you to know that I very much appreciate your interest in our coverage.
SEWrestle began as a way to promote the greatest sport in the world across the Southeast. Over the last 25 years, that mission has taken many different forms—simple websites, social media, and everything in between. Substack is the next chapter in that evolution.
Part of the reason for this shift is my frustration with social media and how easily it can be manipulated. That’s why there’s no longer a SEWrestle presence on Twitter (and I may step away from Facebook too). I know this limits how many people see the content, but I’m okay with that. We’re not trying to build a media empire—we’re simply trying to promote the best sport in the world.
So why this email if you already subscribe?
Two main reasons:
Reach. I want as many people as possible to read and share this content.
Focus. SEWrestle coverage will now concentrate on three states—Alabama, Florida, and Georgia—where I have the deepest connections. While I’d love to continue covering the entire Southeast, it’s simply not realistic to stay current on everything.
That said, there are great resources for other states:
North Carolina – NCMat (Ryan Mitchell & Rhett Hoy)
South Carolina & North Carolina – Frank Smithwick
Tennessee – PinTN, a staple for more than a decade
This doesn’t mean we won’t highlight wrestlers from other states. When I release SEWrestle Rankings, they’ll still include AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, and TN. You can’t have an SE Ranking and leave out athletes like Jaelen Culp (SC), Bentley Sly (NC), or the Cleveland crew (TN).
About Substack Limitations
The way content appears depends on how you access it:
On your phone (app): You’ll see a continuous feed.
On a computer: You can view a website-style version with sections or just the feed.
Many Substack writers organize posts into sections for different audiences. In our case, we’ve added three sections—Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. At the moment, you’ll still receive emails for general SEWrestle posts, but not for state-specific ones, to avoid flooding inboxes with content that might not be relevant.
Can you subscribe to a specific section?
Yes—but only on a computer. I’ve created a short video explaining how to do this if you’re interested.
The plan is to post plenty of content over the next two months as we head into the season. I just want to make sure you know how to access it so you don’t miss anything. As always - if you have any questions please drop me an email at sewrestle@gmail.com
