It was a massive weekend across the Sunshine State and beyond. Hagerty brought together one of the deepest fields in Florida and emerged with the Johnny Rouse title, finishing ahead of South Dade, Lake Gibson, Southwest Miami, and a loaded field, while Cocoa Beach handled business on the girls side. Up in in the panhandle, Jesuit stood tall at the Ryan Blackwell Invitational, holding off strong challenges from Archbishop Rummel (LA), Smiths Station (AL), Gulf Breeze, and others. Back south, Palm Harbor University continued its hot streak by winning the Fit2Win Ryan Vaught Memorial on its home mats over Harmony and Doral Academy, Douglas captured the 46th Annual Palm Beach Christmas Classic, Charlotte powered past Wellington and the rest of the field to win the Gene Gorman Showcase Duals, and Wellington girls traveled south to claim the It’s In My DNA Invitational over host North Miami.
And that only scratches the surface. There were major tournaments and duals happening everywhere across the state. Scroll below for full coverage — team champions, individual finals, top scorers, Gorriaran Award winners, and our picks for the Hammers of the event.
NOTES:
Top Scorers: Those wrestlers that accumulated the most team points in the event.
Gorriaran Award: Named for Manuel Gorriaran.
He is best known for his insistence on the fall as the ultimate goal of amateur wrestling, and for inaugurating an award given at tournaments everywhere, the Gorriaran Trophy for the wrestler scoring the most falls in the least total time.
How we define a “hammer” at an event isn’t limited to dominance alone. It might be the wrestler who delivers in the biggest moments, sparks their team in a pivotal dual, or outperforms their seed when it matters most. A hammer can even take a loss—sometimes the truest measure is battling back, grinding through the bracket, and fighting your way to third after an early setback.

3A District 2 Duals
Top seed Flagler Palm Coast opened their District Duals with a bye, while Lake Mary, Deland, and Buchholz had to battle through the first round. Lake Mary rolled past Ocala Forest 52–22, Deland handled University (Orange City) 51–27, and Buchholz cruised to a 69–11 win over West Port.
In the semifinals, Flagler Palm Coast flexed their depth and firepower—closing the dual with five straight bonus-point wins to pull away from Lake Mary, 54–19. Buchholz was equally dominant in the other semi, posting a 70–5 win over Deland to set up the highly anticipated showdown between the top two seeds.
Flagler came out firing in the final. Three quick bonus-point victories—two of them falls—put the Bulldogs up 17–0 before Buchholz got on the board. Jayden Pineda answered with a 15–0 tech fall for the Bobcats, but Flagler countered with a win at 132 and a pin at 138 to extend the margin to 26–5 after six bouts.
Then came the Buchholz surge. Aiden St. Clair sparked the rally with a pin at 144, and teammates Prince Fortuna-Abdullah, Stefan Behrmann, and Dylan Leamon stacked three straight decisions to close the gap to 26–20.
Flagler, however, steadied the ship. Joseph Foalima delivered a crucial 11–0 major at 175, and Doyvonne Leadon followed with an 8–4 decision at 190, pushing the lead to 33–20—a margin Buchholz could no longer overcome. Still, the Bobcats finished strong: Braedon McGuigan earned a fall at 215, and Daryl Godbolt edged Aidan Korth 1–0 at heavyweight to make it 33–29, but the comeback fell just short.
In the end, the two teams each claimed seven match wins—but Flagler’s bonus points were the difference, securing them the District Dual title.
Top Scorers (each team):
Buchholz - Braedon McGuigan (16 pts)
Deland - Kaiden Olavarria (22 pts)
Flagler Palm Coast - Joseph Dailey and Lenny Fries (12 pts)
Forest (Ocala) - Franco Macias (18 pts)

University (Orange City) - Malic Rushdi (24 pts)
West Port - Maximus Hutchinson (12 pts)
Gorriaran Award: Caden Laravuso of Lake Mary (3 falls in 11:28)
Hammer(s): Joseph Foalima and Deyvonne Leadon delivered two massive wins at the back end of the championship dual. Their bonus-point major and clutch decision not only halted Buchholz’s momentum but ultimately secured Flagler Palm Coast the district title.

2025 Johnny Rouse Invitational at Hagerty
What an event at Hagerty, with pool play setting the stage for an absolute gauntlet in the championship rounds.
The Blue Pool belonged to South Dade, who rolled past Riverdale (46-23), Winter Springs (51-19), and Hagerty B (69-11). Winter Springs secured second place by edging Riverdale 43-33. In the Black Pool, Lake Gibson flexed its depth with dominant wins over Ft. Myers (64-10) and Lake Howell (77-6), then survived a tight battle with Hagerty 42-36. Hagerty still advanced in second. The Silver Pool was controlled by Southwest Miami, who overwhelmed New Smyrna Beach (68-6), Satellite (83-0), and George Jenkins (71-6). New Smyrna Beach grabbed the runner-up spot with a 39-23 win over George Jenkins.
That set up a loaded championship pool, and from there, chaos took over. Hagerty, despite finishing second in its pool, caught fire and went unbeaten—knocking off New Smyrna Beach (57-20), Southwest Miami (34-32), Winter Springs (38-35), and South Dade (47-31) to claim the top spot. Southwest Miami finished second overall, powered by convincing wins over Winter Springs (65-8), South Dade (39-28), and Lake Gibson (42-24). It was a wild, high-level team battle from start to finish, and Hagerty rose to the moment on its home mats.

Chase Wolgamuth (Hagerty) finished 6-1 and delivered the defining moment of the tournament. After an early one-point loss (to Hackett of Lake Gibson), Wolgamuth rebounded with three wins before stepping into the spotlight in the championship dual against Southwest Miami. With Hagerty trailing 32-30 heading into the final bout, Wolgamuth rose to the occasion, scoring a decisive 14-6 major decision to flip the dual and clinch the team title.
Antonio Cordoves (Southwest Miami) may have gone 5-2, but his impact was massive. His fall at 190 against South Dade proved to be one of the most important swings of the weekend, helping Southwest Miami secure a statement win over their rival and solidifying their run to a runner-up finish.
